TULSA, Okla. - The Southeast Missouri tennis team opens the season in the Sooner State participating in the Tulsa Hurricane Invitational, starting its quest for its fourth straight OVC regular season championship
The Invitational will see the Redhawks take on three schools from three different states. The matches start off when SEMO takes on the host Tulsa in a match starting at 9 a.m. From there the Redhawks will battle with Wyoming across two days. On Satirday the teams will play the singles portion of the match. The doubles portion will be the second match on court Sunday. Wrapping up the invite, SEMO will face off against Louisiana Tech Sunday and will be the fourth match on court.Â
Series History

This will be the first ever matchup for SEMO against Tulsa and Wyoming. The Redhawks are 1-1 all-time against Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs got the best of SEMO last season winning 4-0, but the SEMO topped Louisiana Tech in 2019 4-2.Â

Welcome Back Coach Brooks

Head coach Steve Brooks returns for his second season leading the Redhawks. In his first season, SEMO went 5-0 in conference matches to win the regular season title for the third consecutive year. He also was awarded OVC Coach of the Year honors.Â

The Team
Â
SEMO returns nearly the entire roster from last season. The lone departure was
Lera Valeeva, who was the team's lone All-OVC selection. Returning for this season includes
Maja Bajorek,
Claudia Casas,
Juliette Demunck,
Kristina Kozakova, Mia Mayerova, and
Yontha Tadoum. The squad welcomes in two new athletes in transfer from Christian Brothers University
Sofia Zemtsova and freshman
Saskia Soome.Â

The Fall
Â
Across four tournaments, SEMO went 45-32 in singles matches in the fall portion of the schedule. Leading the team was Sofia Zentsova who went 9-1 in her singles matches and finished the fall on a five-match winning streak. Mayerova and Tadoum both tabbed seven wins in their singles matches.Â

In doubles the Redhawks went 21-14. Zemtsova teamed up with Kozakova to go 8-3 as a duo. Demunck and Tadoum only played two matches together but didn't lose either match to start 2-0 as a pair. Mayerova and Bajorek finished the fall with seven wins together.Â
