Redhawks Return to OVC Play Thursday Through Saturday, Hosts Lindenwood
Southeast Missouri Baseball (21-16, 8-4 OVC) will host in-state rival Lindenwood (17-19, 6-5 OVC) to continue Ohio Valley Conference play with a three-game set beginning on Thursday, April 17 and concluding on Saturday, April 19. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. on Thursday & Friday and ending with a 2 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon from Capaha Field. 
 
Sawyers vs. Lindenwood
The Redhawks and Lions will meet for the seventh, eighth, and ninth time over the weekend in LU's third season as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. Head coach Andy Sawyers is 6-0 against the Lions dating back to the 2023 campaign. In both 2023 and 2024, SEMO has swept LU in Cape Girardeau and St. Charles, Mo., respectively. 
 
Midweek Recap
Southeast Missouri Baseball most recently faced off with Murray State on Tuesday evening in Murray, Kentucky in a game that saw the Racers hold on for a 4-3 victory. The Redhawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI single from Ty Stauss and an RBI sacrifice fly by Caleb Corbin. MSU would respond with three runs in the bottom half before the Redhawks tied it in the sixth with Stauss' second RBI of the contest. An RBI double by MSU in the bottom of the eighth inning marked the go-ahead run as they held on for the 4-3 victory. 
 
Fourth Series
The weekend series with Lindenwood marks the halfway point in the Ohio Valley Conference season and is the fourth series in league play for SEMO Baseball. The Redhawks enter the weekend in a tie for second place, one game behind league leading Tennessee Tech (9-3) at 8-4. SEMO is 5-1 this season in league games in Cape Girardeau. 
 
Multiple RBIs
Graduate student Ty Stauss recorded a pair of RBIs in Tuesday's contest at Murray State. The Wildwood, Mo.-native recorded a multi-RBI game for the third time this season. He has 17 total RBIs this season which ranks him fifth on the team in that category. Over his career, Stauss has a total of 101 RBIs in a Redhawk uniform. 
 
Everyday Hustle
Senior first baseman Bryce Cannon has started all 37 games at first base for the Redhawks this season entering the weekend. The Santa Rosa, California-native roped his team-leading 12^th double in Tuesday game at Murray State. In his two-year SEMO career, Cannon has 29 doubles in 340 at-bats. He leads the team in slugging-percentage with a .517 mark and is third on the team in on-base percentage (.413). 
 
Good Start, Lorenzano
RHP Matthew Lorenzano made his second start of the season on Tuesday evening. The right hander recorded a career-high three strikeouts against Murray State and had a career-long outing of 3.1 innings pitched. 
 
Consistency
LHP Ethan Osborne pitched 1.0 innings on Tuesday night and was untouchable in his outing once again this season. Osborne allowed no hits for the sixth time this season and for the 19^th time in his career. He also allowed no runs for the ninth time in 2025 and the 32^nd time in his career. He has a 4.50 ERA in 12 relief appearances this season. 
 
Fielding Percentage
Southeast Missouri Baseball cracked the top 100 of all college baseball in fielding percentage. Fielding at a .971 mark, the Redhawks rank 99^th in all of division I in fielding percentage. Southeast Missouri is the number one defense in the Ohio Valley Conference through 37 games. 
 
Earned Run Average
Southeast Missouri enters the weekend with the number one ERA in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 4.79 mark after 37 games. The Redhawks rank 58^th in the country in team ERA, led by LHP Jackson Kranawetter with a 2.35 ERA out of the bullpen. RHP Nathan Mertens is the number one starting pitcher with a 3.21 ERA and leads the OVC in that category. 
 
Still at the Top
RHP Nathan Mertens is still the nation's leader in walks allowed per nine innings. Mertens has a 0.76 BB/9 ratio which is the lowest in the Ohio Valley Conference and all of division I baseball. In seven starts, Mertens has surrendered just four walks and has not had an appearance with more than one walk in his outing(s). 
 
Freeze
Three Redhawk pitchers have 10 or more strikeouts looking against opposing hitters this season. RHP Brian Strange leads the club with 12 backward K's followed by Nathan Mertens and Jackson Kranwetter with 11. RHP Sam Heyman and LHP Haden Dow round out the top five with nine and eight, respectively. 
 
The Closer
LHP Jackson Kranawetter is among the top 50 in division I baseball in saves. Kranawetter has recorded five saves on the season which ranks him 43^rd in the country in saves. The Campbell Hill, Illinois-native ranks second in the OVC in saves. 
 
Strikeout-to-Walk Ratio
The Redhawks pitching staff is among the nation's best in strikeout-to-walk ratio and ranks first in the OVC in the category. SEMO holds a 2.86 K/BB ratio heading into the weekend, ranking 11^th in division I baseball. 
 
Good Outing Kohlberg
RHP Kayden Kohlberg had a solid outing on Tuesday evening at Murray State. The freshman from Imperial, Missouri made his first appearance since March 21 at UT Martin on Tuesday night. Kohlberg pitched 1.0 innings and allowed no runs for the third time this season. 
 
Three Bagger
Southeast Missouri has recorded 13 triples on the season through 37 games, led by catcher Liam Forsyth with three. The Redhawks rank 21^st In the country in triples and are the number one team in the OVC in the category. Fellow catcher Shea McGahan is close behind Forsyth with two triples this season. 
 
Outfield Stealin' Bases
Outfielders Ty Stauss and Michael Mugan lead the Redhawks in stolen bases with four a piece this season. Stauss recorded his fourth stolen base on Tuesday night at Murray State as the Redhawks have 25 stolen bases on the campaign.
