CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri Baseball (20-15, 7-4 OVC) won 5-4 in game two against Eastern Illinois (15-16, 6-4 OVC) Saturday evening at Capaha Field.
Sam Heyman started on the mound for the Redhawks and improved to 4-3 on the season with an impressive performance from the mound. Heyman threw for seven innings with an era of 4.69. He allowed eight hits, four runs, walked two batters, and had seven strikeouts.
Caden Kickhaefer came in to relieve Heyman at the start of the eighth inning and earned his first save of the season. Kickhaefer faced seven batters, allowed one hit, and recorded two strikeouts.Â
Southeast Missouri recorded six hits with five different Redhawks getting in on the action. All five runs were scored by five different players. Cole Warehime was the lone Redhawk to record two hits, he had an RBI along with three other Redhawks.
Eastern Illinois pitcher Tyler Kapraun got awarded the loss. He pitched seven innings and allowed six hits and all five runs.
The first two innings were scoreless with Eastern Illinois breaking through in the third scoring one run off of a single to left field. The Redhawks responded quickly, scoring all five of their runs in the bottom of the third.
Liam Forsyth got SEMO on the board first off of a sacrifice fly out to left field by Brooks Kettering. Forsyth got into scoring position off of a throwing error by EIU's pitcher on a fielder's choice hit by Demitri Shakotko.Â
Two batters later Micheal Mugan would single to center field driving Andrew Ramirez to second and Shakotko home for SEMO's second run. The Redhawks bats stayed hot with Bryce Cannon doubling and Warehime singling moving Ramirez and Mugan across home plate.
After the single to to third base, Cannon would advance to home scoring SEMO's fifth and final run off of a wild pitch by EIU.Â
SEMO's defense along with Heyman and Kickhaefer would hold up and only allow the Panthers to score three more runs in the fourth to win the game 5-4.

The Redhawks will finish up their series against Eastern Illinois tomorrow at Capaha Field with the first pitch schedule for 1 p.m., CT.Â
