Redhawks Host Indiana State for Four Game Series Starting Friday
Southeast Missouri Baseball (6-5) will host Missouri Valley Conference member Indiana State (5-7) for a four-game series this weekend beginning on Friday, March 7. Saturday's game will feature a doubleheader with the Sycamores before the series conclusion on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday, 1 & 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday. 
 
Series History
The Redhawks and Sycamores will meet for the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th time on the diamond this weekend and for the first time since the 2023 season. Since the first meeting in 2006, the Sycamores hold a 9-0 record against SEMO in baseball. Head Coach Andy Sawyers is seeking his first victory over the club holding an 0-4 record against ISU. 
 
Last Weekend
SEMO Baseball took three-of-four from Purdue Ft. Wayne in the home opening series at Capaha Field last weekend beginning with a 19-3 victory on Friday afternoon. The Redhawks split a Saturday doubleheader, dropping the first game (9-5) before winning a nailbiter in the second game (6-5). LHP Haden Dow tossed a complete game, shutout on Sunday afternoon as the Redhawks clinched the series with a 5-0 victory. SEMO scored 35 runs over the four-game set and recorded a season-high 19 hits in the series opener. 
 
Complete Shutty
LHP Haden Dow mowed down the Mastodons in his third start of the season on Sunday afternoon. The St. John, New Brunswick pitched a career-high 9.0 innings while striking out nine batters in a 5-0 victory. His nine strikeouts marked a season best, narrowly missing a career-high of 10 Ks set during the 2023 campaign against Butler. 
 
OVC/National Pitcher of the Week
Dow was recognized for his performance on Sunday by both the Ohio Valley Conference and the College Baseball Hall of Fame.  He allowed just three hits to PFW while recording the second shutout victory of the season for the Redhawks. This season, the lefty has a 0.48 ERA over 18.2 innings and has surrendered just one walk while striking out 20 opposing hitters. He was also named OVC Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season. 
 
Career-High
Outfielder Michael Mugan came around to score five times in Friday's opener with Purdue Ft. Wayne. For Mugan, five runs in a game marked a new career-high surpassing his previous high of four runs in a game. He is now tied for the team-high in runs with 10 on the season. He has an on-base percentage of .409 which ranks him fourth on the club. 
 
Drive 'Em In
First baseman Bryce Cannon recorded a career day on Friday afternoon beginning with an RBI single to begin a three-hit day. Cannon blasted his second home run of the season on Friday en route to a career-high five RBIs against PFW. He also came around to score four times in the contest which marked a new career best for the lefty. 
 
Jump On 'Em
SEMO Baseball has been lethal when scoring the games' first run. The Redhawks are currently 6-1 when scoring the first run of the ballgame. The only loss of the season when scoring the first run came in a midweek contest with Arkansas State (2/26). 
 
Whole Lotta Runs
So far this season, the Redhawks have accumulated 66 runs over 11 games, including a season-high 19 runs against Purdue Ft. Wayne (2/28). SEMO is currently outscoring its opponents by a 66-50 margin while currently sitting at a game above .500. 
 
What a Start
RHP Nathan Mertens made his first career start on the mound in a Redhawk uniform in Saturday's game two. The La Canada, California native pitched a season-high 6.2 innings while striking out a career-best nine hitters. Mertens surrendered just one run on six hits over 84 pitches. He currently has a 0.79 ERA this season in three appearances. 
 
The Walkin' Man
Second baseman Brooks Kettering continues to lead the club in walks this season after finishing as the team leader in walks a season ago. Kettering has nine walks on the season thus far and has an on-base percentage of .389. 
 
Home Run Leader
Outfielder Cole Warehime is the current team leader in home runs. In nine games, Warehime has left the yard three times including Friday and Saturday against Purdue Ft. Wayne. His first home run of the season came against Arkansas State (2/26). He is currently hitting .333 with nine hits, five doubles, and four RBIs. 
 
Kick It
RHP Caden Kickhaefer made his first appearance of the 2025 season during Friday's victory over PFW. Kickhaefer, a junior from Salina, Kansas, pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball while allowing just one hit. He struck out a season-high four hitters over 24 pitches. 
 
Nine in a Row
Outfielder Michael Mugan is currently amid a nine game on-base streak. Mugan began the streak in the series finale against Memphis (2/17). Since then, Mugan has reached base safely in every game. 
 
Big K
LHP Jackson Kranawetter pitched a career-high 3.1 innings in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The lefty from Campbell Hill, Illinois punched out three opposing hitters over the outing while allowing just one earned run. On the season, Kranawetter has a 1.69 ERA out of the bullpen in four appearances.
