MARTIN, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri Baseball (12-10, 0-1) drops game one against the UT Martin Skyhawks (9-12, 1-0). The Skyhawks won by a final score of 23-11 Friday evening.
It was the third time this season that the Redhawks scored 11 runs but it wasn't enough to beat the Skyhawks as they had three innings where they scored five or more runs.
Junior Carson Schrack had himself a day, recording two home runs, five RBI's and scoring twice. Schrack went 3-5 at bat with both of his bombs going over the right center wall.
The Redhawks recorded 10 RBI's on the day with Micheal Mugan adding two, Caleb Corbin, Cole Warehime, and Ty Stauss all adding one to go along with Schrack's five.
RHP Nathan Mertens (2-1) started on the mound for the Redhawks. Mertens ended up getting his first loss of the season after allowing seven runs through three innings. UT Martin's Zach Wager (2-2) pitched 4.2 innings for the Skyhawks to get the win.
After Micheal Mugan singled to right field in the first inning, the Redhawks were up 4-1 after the top of the second when Schrack recorded his first home run of the game and Shea McGahan and Demitri Shakotko both moved across home plate.
UT Martin would answer by scoring five runs in the second making the score 6-4 after the second inning.
Carson Shrack would blast his second home run of the day in the third inning driving Cole Warehime home. The Skyhawks would then score one in the bottom of the third off of a sacrifice fly making the score 7-6 after the third.
The Redhawks would then go on a four inning scoring drought while the Skyhawks would only wait two innings to score again. During the six and seventh innings, UT Martin would score 12 runs pushing their lead to 19-6.
Southeast Missouri would go on a little run in the eighth scoring four runs. Micheal Mugan would break the inning open with a sacrifice fly as Mikey Rocha would move around the bases. With two outs, the Redhawks would keep the bases loaded and score four more runs.
Cole Warehime would single to right to the shortstop driving in Caleb Corbin, Ty Stauss would single to left field pushing in Brooks Kettering, and then Carson Schrack would single to center field for the Redhawks last hit of the day advancing Warehime and Bryce Cannon to home plate.
The Skyhawks would hit a couple more singles and a sacrifice fly to score four runs in the bottom of the eight to end with the final score of 23-11.
