Baseball Hosts Purdue Ft. Wayne in Home Opening Series
Southeast Missouri Baseball (3-4) will open the home campaign with a four-game series with Purdue Ft. Wayne (0-7) of the Horizon League beginning on Friday, February 28 and concluding on Sunday, March 2. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon from Capaha Field.

The Series
The home opening series will feature a single game on Friday, a doubleheader on Saturday, and a single game to conclude the series on Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader will begin with a seven inning first game before being followed by a nine-inning game roughly 30-minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Sawyers vs. PFW
Head Coach Andy Sawyers has a perfect 3-0 record against the Mastodons as they make the trip back to Cape Girardeau for the first time since 2019. That season, the Redhawks swept PFW scoring 36 runs over the three-game series. The matchup marks the first of 2025 versus a Horizon League opponent.

At Capaha
The Redhawks will open the home schedule this weekend against Purdue Ft. Wayne after having the first home series moved due to weather. A season ago, the Redhawks finished the home campaign with a 16-12 overall record including finishing the regular season with a three-game sweep of UT Martin.

Midweek Recap
SEMO Baseball played its first midweek contest of the season on Wednesday afternoon in Jonesboro, Arkansas resulting in a 7-5 loss to Arkansas State. Second baseman Brooks Kettering and designated hitter Carson Schrack each finished with a pair of hits to lead a SEMO offense that recorded seven hits on the afternoon. SEMO led in both the first inning and the third inning before the Red Wolves regained the lead to hold on for the midweek victory.

Big Blast
Cole Warehime entered the ball game in right field in the middle part of Wednesday's game and recorded his first home run and RBI of the season. Warehime's blast came in the eighth inning to trim the deficit to 7-5 with just an inning to play. He crushed a ball into the left field bullpen for his first long ball of the season and marked his first RBI on the campaign.

Kranawetter Karves
LHP Jackson Kranawetter made his third appearance of the season for the Redhawks in Wednesday's contest. The lefty relieved starting pitcher Matthew Lorenzano in the third inning and kept ASU off the board in 2.1 innings of work. He punched out two opponents in his outing, pushing his season total to 11 strikeouts this season.

Production from the Bottom
Short stop Andrew Ramirez, in his first season as a Redhawk, has been the regular nine-hole hitter this season for Coach Sawyers and he leads the squad in batting average, on-base percentage, and doubles through the first seven games of the season. He is hitting .318, has a .423 OBP, and has four doubles so far. He has the second most hits on the team with seven and has started every game this season at short stop.

Ultimate Sacrifice
Center fielder Michael Mugan, who led the Redhawks in hits a season ago, has been able to execute the sacrifice bunt so far this season. Through seven games, Mugan leads the club with three sacrifice bunts including two executed in Wednesday's game at Arkansas State. Both of his bunts yesterday ended up leading to runs for the Redhawks.

Three Homers
Three Redhawks have recorded a home run so far this season through seven games. First baseman Bryce Cannon, and outfielders Michael Mugan & Cole Warehime each have a home run this season. For Cannon and Warehime, each home run has been a solo shot to left field. Mugan blasted a grand slam in the season opener at Memphis to propel the Redhawks to a 7-3 victory over the Tigers (2/14). A season ago, SEMO hit 107 home runs total as a club

The Slugger

Kettering has an on-base percentage of .394 and led the team a season ago with 46 walks in his freshman year.

Three pitchers are tied for second with 11 Ks in LHP Haden Dow, Jackson Kranawetter, and RHP Sam Heyman. Reliever Nathan Mertens rounds out the top strikeout leaders with seven in just two appearances in 2025.

Out of the Pen
Three Redhawks have made three appearances so far for the club which is the most of any pitcher(s) in 2025. LHP Jackson Kranawetter and RHPs Gavin Johnston and Matthew Lorenzano each have three appearances. Lorenzano, who's first two outings came from the bullpen, made his first start of the season on Wednesday efternoon for his third appearance.
