Redhawks Drop Midweek Contest at Arkansas State Wednesday

JONESBORO, Ark. – Southeast Missouri Baseball (3-4) dropped the first midweek contest of the season to Arkansas State (3-6) by a final score of 7-5 from Tomlinson Family Stadium on Wednesday night.

Second baseman Brooks Kettering and designated hitter Carson Schrack led the SEMO offense who recorded seven hits on the afternoon. Kettering finished 2-5 at the plate, Schrack finished 2-3 as the only Redhawks with a multi-hit day.

Trailing 7-5 entering the ninth inning, left fielder Ty Stauss drew a two out walk to extend the inning. Third baseman Caleb Corbin legged out an infield single to put Redhawks on first and second with the go-ahead run coming to the plate.

A fly ball to center field halted the scoring threat as the Red Wolves held on for the 7-5 victory.

Kettering led off the ball game with a single to left field off ASU's RHP Kole Turner to get the first baserunner of the afternoon. Center fielder Michael Mugan moved him over to second base with his first-of-two sacrifice bunts in the contest.

After a groundout by Stauss moved Kettering to third, a balk was called on Turner to deliver the first run of the game for the Redhawks as Kettering came across to score in the first inning.

A two-run home run in the second inning from ASU gave them a one run lead as Cross Jumper homered to left field off RHP Matthew Lorenzano. Lorenzano pitched 2.2 innings allowing four runs in his first start of the season.

SEMO would respond in the third inning with an RBI fielder's choice from Ty Stauss that scored Andrew Ramirez from third base. Another error by ASU allowed Kettering to come across to score his second run as the Redhawks led 3-2 after 2.5 innings.

The Red Wolves would add two more runs in the bottom half of the third with a two RBI double down the right field line by ASU's Daedrick Cali to make it 4-3 Red Wolves after the third inning.

A fifth inning sacrifice fly from Corbin and an eighth inning solo home run by Cole Warehime were the final runs of the ball game for the Redhawks. Warehime's blast was his first homer and first RBI of the season.

LHP Jackson Kranawetter relieved Lorenzano in the third inning. Making his third appearance of the season, Kranawetter pitched a flawless 2.1 innings allowing just two hits and punched out two Red Wolves in his outing.
