SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri Women's Tennis team had a strong showing at the Missouri State Fall Invitational Saturday, securing multiple wins in both singles and doubles play. The team earned 16 total victories across matches against opponents from Missouri State, Kansas City, and Lindenwood.
In the singles matches the Redhawks won 10 matches including a perfect 3-0 record from
Sofia Zemtsova. She started her matches in the B-Flight taking down Lucy Latham from MSU 6-1 in the first set before Latham retired. In her second match she defeated Luciana Braga from Kansas City 6-4, 7-6. Zemtsova also picked up her third win via her opponent from Lindenwood retiring.
Juliette Demunck also went 3-0 in singles matches in the C-Flight. Her run started with a win over Lola Federski (MSU) 6-3, 6-2, before also taking down Sophie Marshman (KC) 6-2, 6-1. Her singles match wrapped up with a win over Adella Castaner 7-6, 7-5 also from Kansas City.
Other Redhawk victories included Mia Mayerova who tabbed a 6-3, 6-4 win over Matilde Ercoli from Missouri State in her first match.
Kristina Kozakova also won her first match against Missouri State 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) over Else Jackson. Both
Yontha Tadoum and
Claudia Casas ended their singles matches with win with Tadoum defeating Megan Caffin 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 in the A-Flight and Casas added a 6-3, 6-4 win in the C-Flight over Castaner.
In the doubles matches SEMO picked up six wins and only three losses. In the B-Flight Kozakova and Zemtsova went 3-0 as a duo defeating a duo from MSU 6-4 in their first match, also won 6-4 in the second match against Kansas City, before wrapping up their matches with a 6-1 win over a team from Lindenwood. Mayerova and Bajorek went 2-1 in the A-Flight starting with a 7-5 win over a team from Missouri State and wrapped up their doubles matches with a win in the third round against Lindenwood 6-4.
The Redhawks will wrap up their fall slate with the ITA Regional Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee October 16-20.
