Southeast Missouri women's tennis turned in a strong overall showing at the Middle Tennessee Fall Invite in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The Redhawks competed against a competitive field featuring programs from Western Kentucky, Tennessee State, the host MTSU, Miami (OH) and Lipscomb. highlighted by several hard-fought tiebreak victories and consistent performances across all flights. The weekend provided valuable experience and momentum as the Redhawks continue their fall slate.
Singles
Leading the Redhawks was
Sofia Zemtsova who went 2-0 in her singles matches defeating Tennessee State's Victoria Cooksey 6-1, 7-5 and Middle Tennessee's Sze Xuan 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.
Mia Mayerova also posted wins over Tennessee State's Claudia Murdasanu 6-2, 6-3 and Western Kentucky's Carolina Chiatti 6-3, 6-2 before narrowly losing to Middle Tennessee's Zora Koenig in a super tiebreak 2-6, 6-2, 10-6.
Saskia Soome made her first appearance for SEMO this fall and earned an impressive opening singles win over Tennessee State's Natalie Walsh 6-1, 6-4 and later competed closely against Western Kentucky's Barbara Olvera and Middle Tennessee's Sthefany Lima, losing to Lima in a 10-3 set tiebreak
Yontha Tadoum defeated Tennessee State's Aroa Arrieta Castillo 7-6, 6-3,
Maja Bajorek notched a straight-set win over Tennessee State's Jovana Nikolic, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2),
Juliette Demunck secured a win over Tennessee State's Julie Tungamarial 6-1, 6-0 and
Claudia Casas secured a solid singles win over Tennessee State's Taylor Ellis 6-4, 6-2.
Doubles
In the doubles matches the Redhawks went 6-6 across its matches
Bajorek and Mayerova went 2-2 and opened with a commanding 6-2 victory over a duo from Tennessee State, showcasing clean serving and confident net play. They followed with another solid win against a team from Miami (OH) 6-3.
Tadoum and Soome paired up and went 2-2 as well including a 6-3 win over a pair from Western Kentucky, then added another over a duo from Tennessee State 7-5.
Kozakova and Zemtsova Also went 2-2. The duo posted an impressive 7-6 (7-3) win over a team from Tennessee State. They also added a strong 6-3 victory over a pair from Lipscomb to close the weekend.
Looking Ahead
SEMO will wrap up its tournaments this fall with the ITA Regional hosted by the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.
