Redhawks Hit Road to Face Lindenwood This Weekend
Southeast Missouri Baseball (22-23, 10-8 OVC) will hit the road for the first time in five games to take on rival, Lindenwood (14-30, 7-11 OVC), in a return to Ohio Valley Conference play. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday, May 3, followed by 1 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Series History
This weekend will mark just the sixth, seventh, and eighth meeting(s) between the two schools on the diamond. The Lions made their way to Cape Girardeau a season ago as the Redhawks swept LU in the first meeting as Ohio Valley Conference foes. SEMO leads the all-time series, 5-0.

Last Time Out
SEMO Baseball fell by a final score of 7-6 on Tuesday night to MIssouri Valley Conference member, Evansville in the St. Louis Browns Tribute game, presented by Window World.

UE got on the board in the second inning with a pair of run scoring doubles to make it 3-0 Purple Aces. Both pitching staffs held the game in check from that point on as neither side would score after the second inning until the eighth inning.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning, SEMO found some momentum. A leadoff single by Ben Palmer and a wild pitch put the short stop on second base. A walk to Michael Mugan and another walk to Ty Stauss would load the bases. After a Bryce Cannon strikeout, Caleb Corbin drove in the first run of the night for SEMO with an RBI walk to make it 3-1. The walk to Corbin sparked two more walks of the same caliber as designated hitter Keoni Coloma ad pinch hitter Cole Warehime both recorded bases loaded walks and tied the game at three.

An RBI groundout by catcher Nolan Ackerman put the Redhawks in front for the first time, 4-3.

Evansville would regain the lead with a pair of two-out, two-run, ninth inning home runs as they lead 7-4 heading into the final half inning.

Two straight walks to Palmer and Mugan, and an infield single by Stauss was how the bottom of the ninth started. With the bases loaded and one out, Caleb Corbin found the outfield grass for a two RBI single to left field to get the Redhawks to within a run.

UE was able to get the final two outs in the inning, holding on for the win.

Every Day
Center fielder Michael Mugan and short stop Ben Palmer are the only Redhawks who have started and played all 45 games entering the weekend. The duo are hitting .324 and .289, respectively. Mugan leads the team in hits while Palmer leads the team in home runs. In the field, Mugan is fielding his position at a .985 mark, as Palmer is fielding .931 at short.

100 Career Hits
Left fielder Ty Stauss has surpassed the 100 hits milestone. The Wildwood, Mo.-native now has 103 hits in his SEMO career. The senior has played in 125 games in a Redhawks uniform and has 106 starts in his career. He joins outfielder Josh Cameron (110) and Peyton Leeper (136) as the only current Redhawks with 100+ hits.

April Recap
The Redhawks finish the month of April with an 8-9 overall record and a 5-7 record in conference play. SEMO started the month on a three-game losing streak, but with a win over Little Rock (Apr. 7) the streak turned into a three-game winning streak with wins over Southern Illinois (Apr. 9) and Southern Indiana (Apr. 12). SEMO won the series with the USI before winning a Tuesday Midweek at Murray State (Apr. 16). SEMO dropped two-of-three at Tennessee Tech before beating SIU again in Cape Girardeau (Apr. 23). SEMO has now dropped its last three contest entering the month of May.

For the Team
Short stop Ben Palmer leads the team and the conference in sacrifice bunts. After recording one on Tuesday night, Palmer now has nine sacrifice bunts which ranks him 16th in the country in that category. He is averaging 0.20 sacrifice bunts per game which ranks him 37th in the nation.

Appearances
RHP Gavin Johnston has registered the most appearances on the mound for the Redhawks so far this season. The sophomore from Arnold, Mo. has made 20 appearances out of the bullpen for SEMO in 2024 which ranks him second in the OVC. This season, Johnston has a 7.71 ERA over 25.2 innings pitched recording 25 strikeouts and has allowed just 22 earned runs.

Doubles
First baseman Bryce Cannon leads the club with 14 doubles on the season. Cannon recorded a pair of RBI doubles in Sunday's 11-8 loss to Morehead State last weekend. The lefty ranks seventh in the OVC in doubles and is only five back of Morehead State's Colton Becker (19) who leads the league.

Home Runs
Short stop Ben Palmer continues to lead the club with his 12 home runs. Michael Mugan joins Palmer in the double-digit category as he recorded his 10th home run of the season in Friday night's win over Morehead State. Outfielder Josh Cameron and first baseman Bryce Cannon round out the top three, tied with nine home runs each.
