CHARLESTON, Ill. - The women's track & field team secured their 12th Outdoor Ohio Valley Conference title and defended their title from last year.
The women's team won their second straight Outdoor Ohio Valley Conference title by dominating the meet with 197 total points, 49.5 points ahead of Little Rock in second.
Going into the last day the men's team was in second but fell to third place today. The team notched 142.50 total points behind Eastern Illinois (190.50) in second and Little Rock (220) in first.
The Redhawks tallied nine gold medal finishes, 18 podium showings, and recorded 36 top ten outings during the final day of competition.
Specialty Awards
Breanna Miles defended her OVC Female Track Athlete of the Year from last year by winning the award again.
Brianna Dixon won OVC Female Freshman of the year and OVC Female Field athlete of the year.
Paden Lewis claimed Male Field Athlete of the Year and Male Field Athlete of the Championship after only being a Redhawk for one year.
Head Coach
Eric Crumpecker won his sixth women's outdoor coach of the year. He has won six coach of the year awards in four years.
Champions
Dixon broke her own SEMO 100m hurdle record and won the gold as well. The freshman crossed the line at 13.60 breaking her former record of 13.82 which she set at the Memphis Invite earlier this year.
Breanna Miles was crowned the champ in two different events, the 400m and 200m. The senior crossed the line at 55.29 to take the crown in the 400-meter dash. In the 200m miles broke her own 200m record again. She previously broke the record on thursday during the preliminary race.
Justin Breault claimed the gold in the men's javelin with a new personal best throw of 225' 3", ranking fourth in the SEMO record book.
Erika Mellor stood alone atop the podium while wearing gold for her finishing time of 2:14.25 in the 800-meter.
The clock stopped at 1:52.20 in the 800-meter race as
Terrico Garrett claimed the throne once again.
Paden Lewis was holding the trophy at the end of the shot put event. Lewis achieved a gold medal mark of 58' 0.75".
After the women's javelin event
Jaden Kight was wearing the gold. The Missouri native achieved a new PR and new ovc champion ship record mark of 158' 6", beating the prevoius championship mark of 156' 4.4" set in 2018.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Miles,
Laila Hardin,
Leanza Dwaah, and
Sydney Burdine crossed the line at 3:45.84 to hold the trophy.
Podium Finishes
The 4x100-meter squad of
Serena Williams,
Sydney Burdine,
Leanza Dwaah, and Miles grabbed the silver medal with a time of 46.37.
After the javelin throw was over
Shea DeGraaf was wearing bronze with a distance of 196' 0".
Alivia Busch achieved a mark of 45' 6.75" to win the silver medal in the shot put.
Burdine finished the 400m dash just behind her teammate with a time of 55.30 for second.
Laila Hardin's 400-meter time clocked in at 1:02.89 which was good enough for the bronze medal.
In the shot put
Marshall Swadley claimed the silver with a finishing mark of 57' 2.25".
Hannah Eastman crosses the line at 17:24.96 to take the silver in the 5000m.
Garrett Dumke ended with blazing speed in the 5000-meter to tab third place.
Connor Moore, Mark Crawford,
Brenden Parham, and Garrett raced the 4x400m in 3:12.27 for second.
Top Ten Finishes
Momoh Brema,
Brenden Parham,
Connor Moore, and
Tanner Koontz ran the 4x100 in a new season best time of 42.28 for sixth.
The women's 1500m final saw
Layla Fliege place ninth (4:44.99) and
Kayla Vogelsang notch 10th (4:49.92).
With marks of 193' 4" and 174' 5" (NEW PR)
Josiah Kilgore and
Parker Feuerborn posted fourth and sixth place finishes.
Anna Thomason recorded a time of 14.11 (5th) and
Clara Billing had an ending time of 14.22 (6th) in the 100-meter hurdle finals.
Marcus Gordon Jr. ran the 110m hurdle finals in 14.37 for fifth and a new PR.
Williams jumped for a distance of 39' 6.5" to claim the sixth spot in the women's triple jump.
Dwaah ran the 100-meter dash finals to the speed of 11.98 for seventh.
In the 800-meter
Brianna Payton crossed the finish line at 2:15.72 for fourth.
Burdine 800-meter time totaled 24.92 for eight place.
Parker Feuerborn and
Quinton Maxwell registered distances of 49' 2.25" and 46' 6.25" for eighth and 10th.
Aarion Jackson jumped 3 times for a new PR mark of 46' 2.75"(10th).
Kendall Holweg placed fifth (123' 5", New PR),
Anna Thomason finished in sixth (119' 2", New PR), and
Tayler Gudde posted a seventh place finish (119' 1").

The athletes that qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. May 22 (Wed) through May 25 (Sat).
