Redhawks Finish Five-Game Homestand Tuesday Versus Middle Tennessee State
Southeast Missouri Baseball (6-7) will wrap-up its five game homestand on Tuesday, March 5, against Conference-USA opponent Middle Tennessee State (5-6). First pitch is slated for 3 p.m., CT. at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau. 
 
Series History
The Blue Raiders and Redhawks met once a season ago in Murfreesboro, Tenn. resulting in an 8-3 win for MTSU at Reese Smith Jr. Field. The teams were slated to play later in the season, but the game was cancelled. Overall, MTSU leads the series by an 18-12 mark. 
 
OVC Pitcher of the Week
LHP Haden Dow was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon. 
 
Dow picked up his second win of the season (2-0) with a perfect 0.00 ERA on Saturday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader against Toledo in which the Redhawks won 12-0. 
 
The St. John, New Brunswick, Canada native had his second longest outing of the season with 6.0 innings pitched and did not allow a run. He allowed just three hits in the game, and set a. new season-high nine strikeouts, just one shy of his SEMO career-high (10, vs. Butler; 3/12/23). 
 
So far this season, Dow has made three starts and has pitched 17.1 innings in 2024. He has allowed just six earned runs on 12 hits and has wins over St. Thomas (2/25) & Toledo (3/2). The lefty has struck out 15 hitters and surrendered just five walks.
 
Last Time Out
SEMO Baseball most recently took 3-out-of-4 over the weekend series against Toledo in Cape Girardeau. The Redhawks won the first three games of the series by a combined 31-8 score beginning on Friday night with a 6-5 victory in the bottom of the ninth inning. 
 
Outfielder Josh Cameron hit SEMO's first walk-off home run of the season in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Redhawks a 6-5 victory in game one. Cameron finished the weekend hitting .462 (6-13) with a home run, a double, and six RBIs. 

SEMO would run rule both games in Saturday's doubleheader as catcher Nolan Ackerman hit his first Redhawks home run, a grand slam in game one, to power SEMO to a 12-0 victory in seven innings. Haden Dow tossed a gem and did not surrender a run in 6.0 innings of work. He struck out a season-high nine Rockets en route to SEMO's third-straight victory. 
 
Designated hitter Ty Stauss hit SEMO's third grand slam of the week, dating back to Tuesday's game at Missouri, to lead SEMO to a 13-3 victory in game three of the weekend. Stauss finished the weekend 4-for-5 at the plate (.800) with a home run and seven RBIs. 
 
RHP Gavin Baldwin registered his SEMO best seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work and picked up his first win of the season in game three.
 
The Redhawks fell one run short in the series finale, dropping the game 10-9 to conclude the series. 
 
Rattle the Bats
Over the weekend, SEMO's offense exploded to the tune of 43 hits as seven Redhawks had four or more hits in the series. Those 43 hits converted into 40 runs in the series overall, and in return 39 were RBIs. The Redhawks finished with a team batting-average of .339 and a .543 slugging-percentage. 
 
Hit-By-Pitch
Coming into the weekend, SEMO ranked ninth in Division I baseball in hit-by-pitches. After getting plunked eight times over the weekend, the Redhawks now rank third in DI, and first in the OVC, with 14 hit-by-pitches. Utility Chance Resetich leads the team with seven hit-by-pitches as seven different Redhawks have been hit multiple times. 
 
Grand Slam Week
Over the past week, the Redhawks offense registered three grand slams beginning with Bryce Cannon's on Tuesday night against Missouri. Catcher Nolan Ackerman and designated hitter Ty Stauss hit a grand slam a piece in each game Saturday afternoon. For Ackerman, the slam was his first home run in a SEMO uniform. 
 
At the Top on the Mound 
Through the first 14 games of the season, the Redhawks pitching staff ranks near the top of the Ohio Valley Conference. On the mound, the Redhawks have registered 9.7 strikeouts-per-nine-innings which is the top rank in the OVC. They also currently have a 2.33 strikeout-to-walk ratio which ranks them first in the conference. SEMO pitchers rank first in WHIP (1.44), win-loss percentage (.800), and walks allowed per nine innings (4.15). 
 
Drive Them In
First baseman Bryce Cannon ranks among the nation's best in RBI categories. In RBIs-per-game, Cannon ranks second nationally with 2.40 trailing only Columbia's Jack Cooper (5.00) through 14 games. He also ranks third in the nation in RBIs and first in the OVC with 12 RBIs this season. 

About Middle Tennessee State
The Blue Raiders enter Capaha Field with a 5-6 record having lost two out three games to OVC opponent UT Martin. Middle Tennessee is led offensively by Catcher Briggs Rutter. He leads the team-high .432 batting average and RBIs with 16. The senior also leads the team with seven runs. Senior Infielder Gabe Jennings is tied for second on the team with 10 RBIs but has the most hits with 21. Freshman Trace Phillps recorded a hit in every game against the Skyhawks while driving in three runs over the weekend. On the mound Justin Lee has held opponents to a team-best .214 batting average and has an ERA of 4.15 and has only allowed three hits. Middle Tennessee is coach by Jerry Myers who is in his second season at the helm of the program but last year he was the Interim head coach.
 
Looking Ahead
Southeast Missouri Baseball will return to action over the weekend when they head to Marshall for a three-game set with the Thundering Herd. The series will begin on Friday, March 8 and will conclude on Sunday, March 10. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m., CT. in Huntington, W. Va.
