BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri track & field picked up four weekly awards from the Ohio Valley Conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Terrico Garrett was selected as the Male Track Athlete of the Week,
Tanner Koontz earned Freshman of the Week,
Marshall Swadley earned Field Athlete of the Week, and
Taylor Fox was selected as the Co-Female Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Terrico Garrett won the men's 800-meter race on Friday evening at the Hoosier Hills Invite and in doing so, set a new SEMO school record for the event. The Senior from University City, Mo. Set the new school record by .3, finishing in a time of 1:50.11 for a new personal-best.
Sophomore
Marshall Swadley registered two top-five finishes at the Hoosier Hills Invite with a fourth place finish in the men's shot put. Swadley set a new personal-best with a heave of 56' 10.75" (17.34m). He then placed fifth overall in the weight throw, tossing the weight a final distance of 59' 0.75" (18.00m).
Tanner Koontz, one of the newest members of the Redhawks track & field squad, placed fourth in the men's pole vault at the Hoosier Hills Invite. Koontz, from Mt. Vernon, Ill., cleared a height of 15' 6.25" (4.73m) setting a new personal-best in his young career.
Taylor Fox set the new SEMO school record in the women's mile on Friday evening, finishing the race in 4:48.41. The previous time was 4:51.94. Fox set the new school record by nearly 3-seconds and set a new personal-best in the event.
SEMO track & field will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 17, at the Redhawks Invite in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Action is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the SEMO Recreation Center.
