STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Southeast Missouri throwers and distance runners opened up their meets at two different locations Thursday.
The throwers competed at the Bulldog Relays while the distance runners competed at the Wash U Distance Carnival.
In the men's hammer throw
Zavier Winton was the lone Redhawk to make the finals in the event. He finished eighth with a mark of 183-3 on his final attempt to set a new personal best mark. Other men's throwers from SEMO included
Mark Goldman who finished in 17
th reaching 164-1 and
Quinton Maxwell with a mark of 143-10 finishing in 21
st.
On the women's side
Alyssa Repke and
Elliana Rhinehart both made the finals and Repke finished in seventh with a throw of 163-6 just ahead of Rhinehart in eighth reaching 162-9. Both are personal bests.
Andreese Ortiz (12
th, 155-5) and
Bailie Hux (17
th, 151-3) also competed in the event.
The Bulldog Relays will continue Friday starting at 11 a.m. with more field events.
At the WashU Distance Carnival,
Tyler Anderson got the meet started for SEMO finishing 20
th in the 800m with a time of 1:52.95.
Erika Mellor also ran in the 800m, and she finished seventh in 2:13.26. The Redhawk men had
Jacob Blassingame and
Myles Thornburg compete in the steeplechase and Blassingame set a new personal best mark of 9:24.5 finishing in 12
th overall. Thornburg finished in 36
th in 9:41.24.
Layla Fliege wrapped up the opening night of the meet with a 31st place finish in the women's steeplechase in 11:50.72, a new personal best.
The Wash U Distance Carnival will wrap up tomorrow with events also starting at 11 a.m.
