BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri Track & Field's
Serena Williams was awarded the Ohio Valley Conference Female Co-Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
Last weekend at the Redhawks Invite in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Williams captured first-place in two events, including a new personal-best in the women's high jump.
Serena won the high jump with a final leap of 5'5" (1.65m) to win the event which also proved to be a new career-high for the senior in the high jump.
She also competed in and won the women's triple jump on Saturday. Williams jumped to a 38-04 ¾ (11.70m) mark, claiming the top spot of the event.
The Columbia, Mo.-native will look to continue the hot start to 2023 this weekend at the John Gartland Invite as SEMO will head to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete at Indiana State. The competition will begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday.
