CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri track & field swept the men's and women's competition at its 2021 Redhawks Invite indoor meet Friday at the SEMO Rec Center.
SEMO's women totaled 127 points for first in the three-team home opener against SIUE (50) and UT Martin (24). The Redhawk men topped the leaderboard with 87 points followed by UTM (52) and SIUE (50).
Sophomore Serena Williams won the 55-meter dash in her Redhawks debut in 7.39.
Lauryn James (7.43) was second and
Sandrea Cogio took third (7.44).
Brock Wood won the men's race in 6.57 and
Dillon Lay was fifth (6.73).
Wood also was first in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.85.
Anthony Forrest was second (7.97) and Lay was third (8.00). Sophomore Isaac Readnour had a time of 8.43 (seventh) and
John Whitcomb finished in 8.66 (eighth).
Leanza Dwaah then won the 200 meters, clocking in at 26.00.
Breanna Miles (26.07), James (26.58), Williams (27.76) and Cogio (27.9) followed for second through fifth.
Markeith Crawford (24.59, eighth) and
Austin Perkins (26.99, 11th) both represented the men in the 200 meters.
Kendall Long placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.61. Dwaah was second in 1:00.68.
Taylor Fox and
Tayler Gudde went one-two in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:24.09 and 2:32.39, respectively.
Crawford then won the men's 800 meters in 2:00.74.
Nick Bryant finished third (2:02.66), followed by Perkins (2:03.31, fourth),
Kory Snyder (2:03.72, sixth) and
Colin Schwab (2:12.62, eighth).
In the women's 55-meter hurdles,
Kristen Carter earned the top spot with a mark of 8.58.
Angie Williams competed unattached and finished with 9.77 (fourth).
Ellie Gamradt won the high jump after she overcame a height of 5-1 (1.55m).
Shea DeGraaf was first on the men's side with a mark of 6-6.75 (2.00m).
Michael Jenkins finished third with a feat of 6-2.75 (1.90m).
In pole vault, the SEMO women went one, two and three.
Katie Schumer paced the vaulters with a height of 11-5.75 (3.50m) on her first attempt.
Nicole Silverlake (11-5.75, 3.50m) was second after clearing the mark on her second try.
Bailey Griffiths was third with a personal-best 10-0 (3.05m).
Jack Rinehart tied for first in the men's pole vault with
Tanner Teigen who competed unattached. The duo both overcame 15-1.00 (4.60m) on their first attempts.
Readnour cleared 12-1.50 (3.70m) for third.
Williams also won the long jump (17-9.0, 5.41m) and the triple jump (38-2.25, 11.64m).
Ciara Potter added a mark of 17-0.0 (5.18m, third) in the long jump and a distance of 36-4.75 (11.09m, third) in the triple jump.
Competing unattached,
Leslie Brooks was second in the triple jump (36-11.5, 11.26m).
Victor Mathuthu led the men in the jumps that utilize the sand pit, taking first in the triple jump (45-7, 13.89m) and third in the long jump (21-10, 6.65m). Readnour tied for third with Mathuthu in long jump.
DeGraaf (21-9.5, 6.64m, fifth), Wood (21-9, 6.63m, sixth) and Jenkins (20-6.5, 6.26m, seventh) also competed in long jump for the SEMO men.
Nicole Humphreys led the women throwing, with first and second place marks in the weight throw (57-10.25, 17.63m) and shot put (40-0.5, 12.20m), respectively.
Makenzie Williams was second in weight throw (49-3.50, 15.02m) and fourth in shot put (35-0.25, 10.67m).
Anya Tonga won the shot put, competing unattached, finishing with 48-10 (14.88m).
Dylan Clark placed first in the shot put with a distance of 48-8 (14.83m).
Clay Alewelt was third (45-10.5, 13.98m), followed by DeGraaf (42-6, 12.95m, fifth) and Whitcomb (33-11.25, 10.34m, sixth).
Clark was also the runner-up in the weight throw (55-2.25, 16.82m) and Alewelt finished third (48-5.5, 14.77m).
The Redhawks women's 4x400 meter relay team of Miles, Dwaah, Gudde and Long finished first overall in 4:19.85. SEMO also placed first in the men's relay with a mark of 3:33.81, competing in the race with Schwab, Crawford, Perkins and Bryant.
SEMO next heads to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Samford Invite on Feb. 13.
