CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri women's tennis (1-3) heads to Springfield, Missouri, for a pair of weekend matches against Missouri State. The Redhawks will take on the Bears (1-2) Friday at 7 p.m., CT and Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
SEMO most recently split its pair of matches at the College Tennis Showcase in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The Redhawk secured their first victory of the season with a 5-1 decision over Arkansas State (0-2) on Feb. 7. SEMO opened the weekend with a close 4-3 loss to Central Arkansas (4-6).
The Redhawks dropped the doubles point in both matches before registering eight singles victories over the two contests.
Freshman
Daniela Hlacikova tallied a pair of wins to improve to 3-0 at the third singles position. Hlacikova, a Banská Bystrica, Slovakia native, fought past UCA's Yada Vasupongchai, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, before ousting Shelby King of Arkansas State, 6-0, 6-2.
Ksenia Shikanova who hails from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, made her Redhawks debut at the College Tennis Showcase and secured victories in both of her no. 4 singles matches. Shikanova, a sophomore transfer from Nevada, defeated Maja Gledic of UCA, 6-3, 7-5, and overcame Arkansas State's Nejla Zukic, 7-5, 7-5.
Sophomore
Vivian Lai and senior
Kseniya Zonova also both notched their first singles wins of the campaign last weekend in Jonesboro, Arkansas, with victories over the Red Wolves.
SEMO graduate assistant
Phoebe Boeschen played tennis at Missouri State and helped the Bears capture the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Championship. Boeschen graduated from Missouri State in 2019 with a Bachelor's in Middle School Mathematics.
The Redhawks won the 2020 matchup against MSU, 4-3, with four singles victories.
The Bears (1-2) are coming off their first win of the 2021 campaign as they defeated Omaha 4-3 on Feb. 6 before falling at Creighton on Feb. 7. Tiffani Nash paced MSU as she went 2-0 at the fourth singles slot.
Following this weekend against the Bears, SEMO will travel to Peoria, Illinois, to take on Bradley on Feb. 20.
