Redhawks Sweep Tennessee State Thursday for Second Conference Win in 2019

PADUCAH, Ky. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (9-8, 2-3 OVC) clawed past Tennessee State (5-12, 0-6 OVC) with a 7-0 sweep Thursday at the McCracken County High School Tennis Indoor Facility for Southeast's second Ohio Valley Conference victory this season.
The sweep marked the fifth for the Redhawks in 2019 and first in conference play this campaign.
SEMO opened up the match with wins at the first and third doubles spots to clinch the doubles point.
Romana Tarajova and Manuela Barriga breezed by Abhilasha Vishwanath and Mackenzie Beckham, 6-1, before Isabella Krupa and Teona Velkoska (13-4) ousted Aarushi Kakkar and Morgan Cage, 6-1, for their second straight victory at the top position and 13th win in 2019.
Krupa and Velkoska now rank fifth in Southeast's program history for best single season doubles record and tie for sixth all-time for most doubles wins in a single season.
Southeast then notched wins at the first through seventh singles positions with Krupa, Velkoska, Tarajova and Barriga each tallying their second victory of the day.
Velkoska beat Beckham, 6-0, 6-1, at no. 4 singles to extend the Redhawks advantage to 2-0.
Krupa then defeated Vishwanath, 6-3, 6-2, at the third singles slot.
At the top singles position, Tarajova overcome a first set loss to fight past Kakkar, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Kseniya Zonova then rallied past Pragati Natraj, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, at the no. 2 spot to increase the SEMO lead to 5-0.
With the victories, Tarajova (10-4) and Zonova (10-6) have now eclipsed 10 singles wins in 2019.
Sneha Sinha then outlasted Claudia Sole, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8, at the fifth position and Barriga beat Ashia Jones, 6-2, 6-3, at no. 6 singles.
Southeast next heads to Jacksonville, Alabama, for the Redhawks final road dual of 2019 on Saturday against Jacksonville State at 10:30 a.m.
