Redhawks Tennis Sweeps Nebraska-Omaha and Missouri State in Pair of Duals Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (2-3) captured its first two dual wins of the season with back-to-back
4-0 sweeps of Nebraska-Omaha (3-7) and Missouri State (4-1) Sunday at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
"We did a great job staying focused during these matches," head coach Mary Beth Gunn said of the pair of victories. "It was a very physical day and we picked up some quality wins."
Kseniya Zonova who was selected sixth in the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Tennis Preseason Player Top 10 poll earned her first two dual wins of the campaign at the no. 2 singles position.
The Redhawks opened Sunday's doubleheader of competition with a morning meeting with UNO. Southeast captured the doubles point in both duals.
Romana Tarajova and Manuela Barriga outlasted Emily Behling and Marie Kapelevich, 7-5, at the third position to start the dual with the Mavericks. Isabella Krupa and Teona Velkoska then defeated Janelle Wilson and Ines Absisan, 6-4, at no. 2 doubles.
Sneha Sinha then registered her first career dual singles victory, ousting Clare Crockett, 6-1, 6-1, at the sixth slot.
Velkoska increased the advantage on the Mavericks to 3-0 with her second straight dual win this season, a 6-2, 6-3 decision on Emily Behling.
Zonova sealed the dual meet victory at the second position, defeating Wilson, 6-3, 6-3.
In the afternoon tilt, Zonova and Sinha beat Missouri State's Anna Alons and Ellie Burger, 6-3, at the top position to start the doubles slate.
At the third slot, Alye Darter and Mara Presot (MSU) defeated Tarajova and Barriga, 6-2, to even the meet at one doubles match per team.
Krupa and Velkoska then earned their second doubles win of the day to improve to 4-1 in 2019. The duo overcame Phoebe Boeschen and Fati Khamissi, 6-3, to earn the doubles point.
Tarajova fought past Darter at the no. 1 position, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to extend the advantage to 2-0.
Zonova was then the victor for the second time on Sunday when she utilized a tiebreak to beat Khamissi, 7-6 (11-9), 6-2.
Krupa then clawed past Alons at the third slot, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, to capture the second Redhawks sweep.
Southeast next competes at the Redbird Invitational at Illinois State in Normal, Illinois, on Feb. 23 and 24. SEMO opens the tournament with a first round matchup against Toledo Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
