A Peek at What's Ahead
The month of May will begin with SEMO's longest road stretch of the season at seven games beginning Tuesday at Saint Louis. The game with SLU will be the final midweek game of the season and is set to begin at 6 p.m. in St. Louis. Southeast will play its conference bye week up north at Western Michigan next weekend. After a few days off from competition for finals week, the Redhawks will pick OVC play back up at Belmont May 12-14 before wrapping up the regular season against Eastern Kentucky May 18-20 at Capaha.

Series History
The Redhawks hold a 50-34 advantage over Tennessee Tech in the all-time series. Over the last three championship seasons, Tennessee Tech is the only team that has given the Redhawks fits on the diamond. Southeast has lost the regular season series each of the last two years. SEMO sought revenge for the home series loss in 2015 in the OVC Tournament with a 14-1 win to eliminate the Golden Eagles. TTU has won six of the last 11 meetings over a three-year span.

Scouting the Golden Eagles
Tennessee Tech enters the weekend's series scuffling a little, riding a four-game losing streak. TTU was swept last weekend at Southern Illinois in non-conference action then fell at home in a midweek contest with Middle Tennessee, 18-7. TTU holds a 16-2 OVC record this season to lead the league. Both losses came on the road at Jacksonville State three weeks ago. They tied SEMO's undefeated start to OVC play last season at 12-0 before falling to the Gamecocks. Tech's offense has been powerful all season long. Nationally, TTU ranks eighth in batting average (.320), third in doubles (106), second in hits (506), fourth in home runs (66), third in runs (367), fifth in scoring (8.5 runs per game), and second in slugging percentage (.524). Ryan Flick leads the squad with a .401 hitting clip. He ranks second in hits with 61 but has knocked 20 doubles and 10 homers to slug a whopping .730 so far this season. Michael Wood has been their ace on the staff. He's pitched 59 innings and owns a 7-3 record with a 4.58 ERA including a complete game shutout against Bethune-Cookman on Mar. 5.

There's No Place Like Home
In 19 games at Capaha Field this season, Southeast is 14-5 including a 7-2 OVC clip. The Redhawks are hitting .308 at Capaha and holding opponents to a .260 average while outscoring them, 156-94. Individually, Dan Holst is hitting .431 while Tristen Gagan has hit seven homers and driven in 28 runs.

Clay for the Win
Senior RHP Clay Chandler has won five of his last six starts on the mound for Southeast and has a team-leading seven victories. The Second Team All-OVC performer from a season ago finished 4-5 in 2016. His seven wins is tied for the league lead with Michael Wood from Tennessee Tech and is tied for ninth nationally, one win behind the eight co-leaders with eight victories each.

But Does He Get on Base?
Senior outfielder Dan Holst led the squad last season with a .475 on base percentage and currently leads this season with a .511 clip. His .491 career on base percentage ranks fifth among active Division I players. His .511 average ranks seventh nationally this season. He extended his on base streak to 27 games following an eighth-inning walk against Southern Illinois. His 27-game streak is a career long for the senior.

Hang In There, Slugger
Chris Osborne not only finished as the team and conference leader in slugging last season, he was the national slugging champion with a .741 slugging percentage. So far this season, he is slugging .565 and his career .656 slugging percentage ranks fourth among active Division I players. His career .359 batting average ranks 14th in Division I.
