Southeast will look to snap a 14-game losing streak to UT Martin on Saturday. Southeast last beat the Skyhawks in 2009, sweeping the home-and-home series.
Scouting the Skyhawks
The Skyhawks come into Saturday's game with the same record as the Redhawks at 1-3 in OVC play. On the season, UTM is 4-13. Three of UTM's wins came at home including wins over Southern Illinois and Arkansas State. The Skyhawks' lone conference win came in the opener against Jacksonville State, 94-83. UT Martin fell to Belmont and Tennessee State last week. Sophomore Emanye Robertson recorded 15.5 points per game, including 19 points at Belmont. Against TSU, she had 12 points, seven assists, six steals and five rebounds. She has reached double-figures eight times this year. Junior Janekia Mason tallied 12 points versus Belmont for her third straight game in double figures. Freshman Kendall Spray scored a game-high 29 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field against Tennessee State.
A Look Back
Southeast Missouri fought valiantly in a game that featured 10 ties and five lead changes but ultimately succumbed to Belmont last Saturday, 89-77. Southeast was led by
Olivia Hackmann's fourth 20-point game of the season, seventh of her career. She picked up 25 total points on 11 field goals, two of which were from long range, and a free-throw. The redshirt-senior had four rebounds with an assist. Hackmann fouled out of the game with 2:43 to play. In all, SEMO had three players perform in double-figure scoring.
Hannah Noe knocked down 15 points while also grabbing four rebounds.
Bri Mitchell was the other Redhawk with double-digit points, finishing with 14 points. After notching a season-high nine made free-throws on Thursday, Mitchell followed it up with 10 against Belmont. She also handed out a game-high five assists. The Redhawks nearly accomplished something only two teams have done this season: outrebound Belmont. Southeast fell short in the category, 43-41.
Deja Jones led the Redhawks with five. As a team, SEMO shot nearly 40 percent from the floor (39.7%) while the Bruins shot 44 percent. Both teams were 30 percent from 3-point range with Belmont knocking down seven and SEMO with six. The biggest differences in the game came at the free-throw line. Southeast sent Belmont to the line a season-high 35 times. The Bruins hit 26 of their foul shots. On the other end, the Redhawks had a season-high 23 free-throw opportunities and made a season-best 17 (73.9%).
Movin' On Up
The Redhawks have a few players moving up the ranks in Southeast's career records.
Hannah Noe's 96 made 3-pointers ranks seventh while
Olivia Hackmann's 93 rank tied for eighth.
Bri Mitchell has entered the assists list at 10th with 283 while Hackmann's 60 blocks ties
Connor King for 10th all-time.
Welcome to the Club
A 26-point performance against Eastern Kentucky on Dec. 31 gave redshirt-senior
Olivia Hackmann her 1,000th career point, making her the 17th all-time member of Southeast's 1,000-Point Club, eighth of SEMO's Division I era. Sonya Daugherty and Tarina Nixon (2005-09) were the last inducted into the club. With 952 career points, senior
Bri Mitchell will most likely be the next member inducted.
Taking Better Care of the Ball
Since back-to-back 20+ turnover games against Louisiana and Alcorn State, the Redhawks have improved its handling of the ball. In 10 games, the Redhawks have had 13 or less turnovers in six including two games with just eight (Stephens College) and seven (Tennessee Tech) turnovers. Following the Louisiana game, Southeast averaged 4.3 more turnovers a game. SEMO has worked to average 0.3 turnovers less than its opponents.
Wiping the Glass
Southeast Missouri ranks as one of the top rebounding teams in the country, ranking 26th in total rebounds with 713; however, Southeast's 42 rebounds per game ranks 57th nationally. The Redhawks had a season-high 59 rebounds against Lipscomb on Dec. 6.
Redhawks for THREE!
As a team, Southeast Missouri ranks 25th nationally in 3-point field goals made (131) and 29th in 3-point field goal percentage (.370). In the OVC, the Redhawks rank fourth in 3-pointers made but lead in 3-point shooting.
