Battle of the BirdsSoutheast Missouri baseball continues Ohio Valley Conference play against Morehead State this weekend. Both teams enter the series coming off big road wins. Southeast defeated three-time defending Atlantic 10 Champions Saint Louis Tuesday and Morehead downed SEC opponent Tennessee, 11-8, Wednesday. The series has been shifted to a Saturday-Sunday-Monday series due to rain and wet field conditions in Morehead, Kentucky. The series will open Saturday at 3 p.m., CT. Sunday's game will be played at 1 p.m., CT. The series finale will be played Monday at 11 a.m., CT. The series can be heard live on SEMO ESPN 92.9 FM and 1220 AM.

Let's ReviewSoutheast found their way back onto the winning track after going 3-1 on the weekend. The Redhawks opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a series win over Eastern Kentucky. The Redhawks dropped game one Sunday 5-1 but bounced back to beat the Colonels in game two of the doubleheader 12-6. Southeast wrapped up the series win with a lot of offense Monday with a 13-1 win over EKU.
Clayton Evans led the Redhawks offensively on the weekend hitting .545 (6-for-11) and knocked in a team leading six RBI.
Travis Hayes earned his third victory of the season in his start in game two and
Joey Lucchesi picked up his first victory in a Redhawk uniform in his first start Monday. Southeast kept the offense going with a 9-7 road win over Saint Louis Tuesday. Southeast went up 7-1 in the game but SLU battled to tie it at seven all. A pair of eighth-inning runs was enough to lift Southeast past the three-time defending Atlantic 10 Champions.

Johnny Bench Award Watch ListSoutheast Missouri junior catcher
Scott Mitchell has been named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List. Mitchell is a native of Dublin, California. The award, presented by BaseballSavings.com and administered by the Greater Wichita (Kan.) Area Sports Commission, will be presented on June 25 in Wichita. Semifinalists will be announced May 14, and finalists will be announced on June 2.

Score Quick and EarlyAll seven of the Redhawks' wins have come when they have been leading after three innings (7-4). The record improves when they lead after four innings (7-3). Southeast has combined for 46 runs in the first three innings of games this season. More specifically, 24 runs have been scored in third innings alone. Looking AheadFrom Morehead, Southeast will travel to SEC opponent Arkansas for a midweek series with the Razorbacks. Southeast and Arkansas will play Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. and Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. The Redhawks are slated to return home for a conference series with the UT Martin Skyhawks March 20-22.
