CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Facing the top team in the Ohio Valley Conference, the Southeast Missouri softball team fell 9-0 in both games of a doubleheader to Jacksonville State at the Southeast Softball Complex.
Jacksonville State (31-12, 15-4 OVC) limited the Redhawks to three hits in game one and used a six-run fourth inning to propel into a 9-0 victory.
The Gamecocks scored the first run of the game in the second inning as Amanda Maldonado hit a double to left center scoring Taylor Sloan.
JSU tacked on a pair of runs in the third inning before the big six-run fourth utilizing homeruns from Kalee Tabor and Maldonado.
The Redhawks (7-27, 2-14 OVC) got their first hit of the game from
Savannah Carpenter in the bottom of the fourth, a single into right center field. Two batters later,
Chelsea Smith singled through the right side of the infield to put runners on first and second with two outs. However, Southeast was unable to scoot any runners home.
Aubrey Denno was charged with the loss for the Redhawks, falling to 3-7 on the season while Tiffany Harbin picked up the complete game shutout to move to 13-6.
In game two, Jacksonville State pitcher Logan Green threw a no-hitter, with one strikeout and two walks.
The Gamecocks scored a run in the first inning and the third inning and followed with three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth.
Green improved her record to 9-2 while
Keaira Schilling was charged with the loss, falling to 2-10.
The Redhawks return to action Saturday hosting Tennessee Tech in a doubleheader as the Southeast Softball Complex. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon.
