INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Southeast Missouri (3-2) won its second-straight match with a 5-2 victory over IUPUI (0-6) Saturday morning. The Redhawks are on a two-match winning streak for the first time since 2011-12.
Southeast again had a strong showing in doubles action where Heather Robinson and Melissa Martin beat Rachael Bridegroom and Bobbi Modesto in a tiebreaker to secure the point. Valeriia Kashina and Ekaterina Donetskova defeated Vanessa Whyte and Rachel Swartwood, 6-1, at the No. 1 position before Robinson and Martin's victory at No. 2. The teams dueled to a 6-6 deadlock before Martin and Robinson won the tiebreaker, 10-5.
"Melissa and Heather showed great mental focus to win the point," said Southeast head coach Leah Hottois.
The Redhawks were victorious in four of their first five lineup spots during singles action.
Kashina won a three-set tiebreaker over Modesto at No. 1 and Valeriia Nagovitcina took down Swartwood, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2. Robinson and Annisa Warasanti scored the other wins. Robinson beat Brockman, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 4 and Warasanti got by Bridegroom at No. 5. Warasanti, after dropping the first set, forced a tiebreaker with a 6-4 victory and then took the point with a 10-4 win. Warasanti improved to 4-1 in dual singles this season.
Southeast completes its three-match road trip with a 1 p.m., CT, contest at Western Kentucky Sunday.
