CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics team returns to Houck Field House, hosting the University of Alaska at Anchorage and Midwest Independent Conference member University of Illinois-Chicago. The meet begins at 1 p.m.

There will be a free webcast, provided by KFVS12, which will be available at www.kfvs12.com/webcast.

About UIC – UIC and Southeast have matched up once before, on Jan. 18 at Penn State. Southeast outscored the Flames 193.800-189.125. The Flames enter this weekend with a 191.000 average. Consistently, UIC places three individuals in the all around competition and has put four in on occasion. Catherine Dion owns the top all around average with a 39.081. Gabrielle May is second with an average of 38.081.

Southeast is 35-24 all-time against the Flames, including this years victory at Penn State.

About Alaska – The University of Alaska at Anchorage also sees quite a bit of competition in the all around. The Seawolves, who enter with a team average of 188.656, has seen five different gymnasts compete in the all around. Morgan Cook owns the best average of the group with a 37.987. Stefany Bryan is close behind with a 37.269. Alaska is 2-2 overall having competed twice hosting Temple and competing against Seattle Pacific and UC Davis.

Southeast holds a perfect 5-0 record against Alaska Anchorage.

Last Meet –  Southeast did not live up to its potential at Missouri on Friday. The Redhawks scored a season-low 190.900. Bailey Walker scored a season-high on the floor with a 9.675 and Taryn Vanderpool scored a 38.425 to finish second in the all-around. As a team, Southeast scored a 48.450 on the vault, 48.200 on the bars, 47.300 on the beam and a 46.950 on the floor.

Missouri left little room for error, not counting a fall and scoring a 48.425 on the vault, 48.700 on the bars, 48.025 on the beam and a 48.975 on the floor.

First Touch:

Who 2 Watch 4: Megan Fosnow set a new career-best mark on the uneven bars with a 9.850 enroute to a first place finish in the event. She also finished in second place on the vault with a 9.700 and placed 4th on the floor with a 9.700.

National Ranks – After four meets, Southeast fairs well in the national rankings, reeling in the 39th spot in the Vault, 27th on the bars, and 42nd as a team.

Individually, Taryn Vanderpool ranks 51st in the all around while Alyssa Tucker is just behind in the 63rd spot. Vanderpool ranks 54th in the uneven bars with her 9.819 average.

The national rankings are updated on Sunday evening, so there is not an update after Friday's performance.

Vanderpool Named Top Gymnast in MIC in Week 2 – Taryn Vanderpool was named the Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week after her performance at Penn State.
Trying to Head Back to the Regional – Taryn Vanderpool had a breakout junior season that saw her advance to the regional meet in Norman, Okla., a year ago. The senior will be poised to make another regional run after posting a 12th place finish. Hoping to join her will be 2012 qualifier Megan Fosnow. The then-sophomore competed in the all-around.

Vanderpool and Fosnow Tandem – The duo of Taryn Vanderpool and Megan Fosnow have a combined 116 scores of 9.700 or better. With a team that is half freshmen, the 116 times of 9.700 or better is nearly 2 times more than the rest of the roster who has combined for 66 scores of 9.700 or better. Fosnow has hit that mark 61 times while Vanderpool has hit a 9.700 or better 55 times. Vanderpool did so 30 times last season alone.
