EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Keaton Jackson came off the bench to score 16 points and tied the game with 0.6 seconds left in regulation and SIU Edwardsville (9-15, 5-5) slipped past Southeast Missouri (12-12, 3-7), 93-88, Thursday night in a barn-burner at the Vadalabene Center.
Jackson, after scoring just two points in the first half, added 14 in the game's final 25 minutes. He scored on a layup to send the game to overtime with less than a second after
Tyler Stone gave Southeast a two-point edge with 12 ticks on the clock. It was the second time in less than a week that the Redhawks fell victim to either a game-winning or game-tying shot in the final second of regulation.
"Our guys played so hard and left it all out there tonight," said Southeast head coach
Dickey Nutt. "We just didn't get the defensive stop we needed."
In a see-saw battle that featured 11 ties and eigh lead changes, Southeast managed to take an eight-point lead (53-45) when
Jarekious Bradley completed a three-point play with 12:32 left to play.
SIUE never got ahead of the Redhawks during the final 12-plus minutes of regulation, but tied the game four times in the last 2:29. Jackson's layup brought the game to a 70-70 deadlock before
Josh Langford followed to regain the lead for Southeast. Donivine Stewart knotted things up at 72-72 on a layup with 1:57 left.
Bradley sunk a three-pointer and Stone made a jumper to put Southeast ahead by three, but Kris Davis' three tied the game at 77-77 with 41 seconds remaining. Stone later gave the Redhawks the lead again before Jackson shifted the momentum in SIUE's direction with his big shot.
Once SIUE got to overtime, it did not miss for the first 4:43 of the period. The Cougars heated up to shoot 80 percent (4-of-5) and outscored the Redhawks, 14-9, to nail down their eighth win at home.
SIUE scored the first five points in overtime and led by six on two occasions when Rozell Nunn made a three (89-83) and Christian Salecich (91-85) drained a jumper.
Southeast moved within striking distance when Stone cut SIUE's lead in half on a three-pointer with 48 seconds. Shortly after Stewart missed a layup, Bradley had a good look from the top of the arc, but his three-pointer bounced off the rim. Stewart made two free throws with five seconds to secure the 93-88 victory.
SIUE scored the first five points of the game, Southeast answered with eight of the game's next nine following a timeout. Langford's layup gave the Redhawks their first lead at 8-6 with 16:28 remaining.

The Cougars used an 8-2 run to build a seven-point cushion, as Salecich and Maurice Wiltz each buried a three to key the surge. Wiltz's trifecta pushed SIUE's lead to 26-19 at the 8:10 mark.

The last three minutes of the first half included three ties and
Jamaal Calvin breaking away for a layup at the buzzer to tie the game, 36-36, at the intermission.
Jackson was one of five SIUE players with double figures in the scoring column. He shot 5-of-8 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Nunn led the Cougars with 21 points, while Kris Davis followed with 16 and Salecich chipped in 14.
SIUE shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from three-point range with Nunn and Salecich hitting four apiece.
Stone finished with a game and career-high 37 points to lead Southeast. He made 15-of-19 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws, while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out three assists in 38 minutes. It marked the third 30-point game of Stone's career.
Langford also contributed 13 points, Bradley scored 12 and
Lucas Nutt had a double-double 10 points and 10 assists.
Southeast shot 55.4 percent (36-of-65) from the field and 66.7 percent (18-of-27) in the second half.
SIUE defeated Preseason Ohio Valley Conference West Division favorites Murray State and Southeast on its homecourt this season.
The Redhawks return to action when they visit Eastern Illinois for a 2 p.m., CT, matinee Saturday.
