OWENSBORO, Ky. - Southeast Missouri (3-8) snapped a six-match losing skid with a 5-2 victory over Brescia College (8-9) Friday afternoon.
Southeast secured its second road win of the season and recorded its first victory since Mar. 2 when it beat Alabama A&M, 7-0.
The Redhawks had little problem disposing of the NAIA Bearcats picking up wins in No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles.
Heather Robinson defeated Kelsey Hurrigan, 6-0, 6-1, for her team-high fifth win at the top singles position. Elizabeth Nyenwe followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Alejandra Matiz and Jessica Courtnell upended Leanne Myers, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Lauren Schaper then took care of Erin Harper, 6-2, 6-4, for her first win at No. 5 singles this year.
Southeast tacked on the doubles point when Robinson/Courtnell beat Hurrigan/Matiz, 8-1, at No. 1, and Nyenwe/Schaper blanked Myers/Tarsila Duck, 8-0, at No. 2.
The Redhawks play two more matches in Kentucky this weekend, visiting Ohio Valley Conference preseason favorite Eastern Kentucky Saturday and Morehead State Sunday.
