Baseball Hosts Missouri Valley Conference Foe Creighton On Tuesday

The Redhawks will meet Creighton for the first time since 1999

Complete Southeast Missouri Baseball Game Notes

Setting the Table
The Southeast Missouri baseball team opens a four game home stand on Tuesday against Missouri Valley Conference power Creighton at 2:00 p.m. at Capaha Field. The Redhawks will face the Bluejays for the first time since 1999. The Redhawks and Jays game will be the first webcasted game of the 2013 season as fans can follow all the action for free at KFVS12.com.

Redhawks Against Creighton
The Jays hold a 2-1 lead in the all-time series against the Redhawks. The two teams meet to open the 1999 season on February 20 and 21. Southeast took the first game 3-2 and dropped the finale two games of the series 3-2 and 11-1.

Utility Man
Sophomore Jason Blum started games in right field and left field and second base last week. He has now played five positions this season including three appearances on the mound.

Getting Offensive
The Redhawks lead the OVC in hits this season with 155. Southeast leads the conference in doubles with 33 on the season. The Redhawks also lead the OVC in total bases with 219 on the season.

Out of the 'Pen
Southeast's bullpen has been impressive so far this season as they have recorded an ERA of 2.64 so far this season in 75 innings of work. The Redhawks have only allowed 22 earned runs out of the bullpen this season. Southeast ranks third in the OVC in team ERA at 4.20. Southeast has allowed opposing hitters a batting average of .263.

Preseason OVC Polls
The Southeast Missouri Baseball team was picked eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. Austin Peay, the OVC Co-Regular season and tournament champions in back-to-back seasons were picked to win the league with 14 first place votes. Southeast Missouri junior left fielder Derek Gibson was named Preseason All-OVC after earning First-Team All-OVC last season by the coaches and sports information directors in the OVC.
