Setting the Table
The Southeast Missouri baseball team returns to Capaha Field for their first home weekend series of the season as the Redhawks welcome North Dakota State of the Summit League. The Redhawks and Bison kick off the series on Friday at 3:00 p.m. The two teams will also meet Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Redhawks and Bison will meet for the first time in school history this weekend. Southeast hosted Summit foe IPFW in last season's weekend home opener as they took two of three from the Mastadons.
Southeast This Week
The Redhawks moved to 5-0 for the first time since 1995 with a pair of wins this week against Harris-Stowe 12-1 in seven innings and Mid-Continent 9-1.
OVC Honors
The Southeast Missouri baseball team swept the Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Jason Blum was named Player of the Week and senior Zack Smith was named Pitcher of the Week. Blum, a native of Ste. Genevieve, Mo. hit .556 (5-for-9) with three runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, six RBI, a 1.444 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage. allowed one run over seven innings while striking out 10 batters for Southeast Missouri. The senior allowed a leadoff home run in the first inning but scattered four hits the rest of the way and did not walk any of the 26 batters he faced. In the third and fourth innings he struck out five of the six batters he faced.
College Sports Madness OVC Player of the Week
Freshman Clayton Evans was named College Sports Madness OVC Player of the Week after his opening
weekend against UNO as he lead the Redhawks with a .667 batting average and three RBI. He also recorded his first career home run against the Privateers.
Preseason OVC Polls
The Southeast Missouri Baseball team was picked eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. Austin Peay, the OVC Co-Regular season and tournament champions in back-to-back seasons were picked to win the league with 14 first place votes. Southeast Missouri junior left fielder Derek Gibson was named Preseason All-OVC after earning First-Team All-OVC last season by the coaches and sports information directors in the OVC.
