Kenton Parmley broke Southeast Missouri's career hits record and at-bats record in the victory.
“We played a complete game today,” said head coach Mark Hogan. “It was a big win for us.”
Parmley, a native of Goreville, Ill. has 288 hits in his career as a Redhawk as he passed Southeast Missouri Hall of Famer Jeremy Johnson (287 hits, 1997-2000). He recorded 53 hits during his freshman season, 90 hits in his sophomore season, which ranks second in the single season record books.
In 2011, Parmley added 70 hits during his junior campaign. This season he has recorded 75 hits and ranks fifth in NCAA Division I. He has recorded 89 multi-hit games in his career.
In his second at-bat he set a new school record for at-bats in a career, which was held by Zach Borowiak, who recorded 830 at-bats at Southeast from 2000-03.
“Kenton is a complete player and I tip my cap to him today for his accomplishments,” said Hogan. “It is very exciting to see.”
Andy Lennington opened the contest with a single followed by a Parmley double to give the Redhawks the lead.
Trenton Moses added a single in the inning, but Gamecock starter Aaron Elias got out of the jam.
The Gamecocks added two runs of their own in the first inning taking a 2-1 lead. They added to their lead in the second inning with a bases loaded walk to make it 3-1.
The Redhawks took the lead in the fourth inning capitalizing on three Gamecock errors.
Derek Gibson added an RBI double and
Kody Campbell added a two-run single to highlight the Redhawk resurgence.
Christian Hull replaced starter
Shae Simmons in the sixth inning as he threw the final four innings recording his second save of the season as Southeast took the contest, 5-3. Hull allowed only two hits with two strikeouts.
Simmons (4-4) earned the victory going five innings allowing seven hits and three runs. He got out of bases loaded jams early in the contest on his way to the win as the junior threw 119 pitches.
“Shae stood out there and battled today,” said Hogan. “He really wiggled his way out of some jams.”
Lennington and Gibson had multi-hit contests for Southeast. Seven of the nine Redhawks hitters recorded a hit one the day with five different players scoring runs.
Moses extended his reaching base safely streak to 67-games and his hitting streak to 15-games.
Elias (2-6) was tagged with the loss going 6.2 innings allowing five runs (one earned) on seven hits.
Sam Eberle was 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace the Gamecock offense. Kyle Bluestein and Coty Blanchard also added multiple hits for JSU.
