CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (5-10, 2-5) secured wins in five of six singles spots en route to beating Morehead State (10-8, 3-4), 5-2, Saturday in Ohio Valley Conference action at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
Southeast lost the doubles point, but rallied to secure wins in the first five singles positions.
Nikole Novikova defeated Alix Young, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 and Elizabeth Nyenwe edged Alexis Garrett in a close three-set match, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, at No. 2. Jessica Courtnell then took care of Victoria Cran, 7-6, 5-7, 12-10, in the No. 3 spot, while Melissa Martin and Heather Robinson were victorious in No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Martin upended Jessica Montemayor, 6-3, 6-5, and Robinson defeated Brooke Helms, 6-1, 6-0.
The strong singles effort earned the Redhawks their fifth win of the season and second in conference play.
Southeast returns to action at Eastern Illinois on Apr. 14.
