CAPE GIRARDAEU, Mo. – Senior
Kenton Parmley extended his hitting streak to 46-games with a single through the left side in the fifth inning. He also added a grand slam in the seventh inning that proved to be the game winner as the Redhawks (13-26, 4-9 OVC) defeated Tennessee Tech 9-6 (16-21, 6-7 OVC) at Capaha Field Friday evening.
Parmley has now hit in 46-games dating back to last season as he ranks fourth all-time in NCAA Division I history. He is one game from tying Phil Stephenson of Wichita State (47-games in 1981) for third all-time.
“Kenton delivered the hit of the year for us,” said head coach Mark Hogan.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a run in the first and third innings and two runs in the fifth inning off of Southeast Starter
Shae Simmons, who threw five inning allowing four runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.
The Redhawks tied the contest with a four run frame in the fourth inning. Sophomore
Derek Gibson extended his hitting streak to 23-games with a bases clearing three run double to left centerfield to highlight Southeast's comeback charge.
Senior
Trenton Moses added a RBI single through the left side in the stanza as he extended his school record reaching base safely streak to 59-games as Southeast tied the contest at 4-4.
TTU would take a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning only to see the Redhawks add five runs in the bottom of the frame.
The five runs seventh inning was highlighted by the Parmley grand slam. Parmley took the count full and drove his bases clearing shot to left centerfield to give Southeast their first lead at 9-5.
The Golden Eagles added a run in the top of the ninth, but
Christian Hull (3-6) threw the final three frames picking up the win as Southeast took the opening game of the series, 9-6.
Seniors
Taylor Heon,
Kody Campbell, Moses and Parmley had multi-hit games for Southeast.
“I feel like we are growing,” said head coach Mark Hogan.
Parmley and Campbell finished the day 2-for-4 with Heon and Moses finishing 2-for-5 on the day. Parmley added four RBI and two runs scored.
Josh Bryant (1-1) picked up the loss for TTU. Starter Tristian Archer went 4.2 inning allowing four runs on eight hits.
Three Golden Eagles had multi-hit days with Zephan Guyer leading the way with two RBI.
The Redhawks and Golden Eagles meet tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m., CT. Junior
Tony Zerrusen is slated to get the start opposing Matthew Shepherd. The 2002 Ohio Valley Conference Champions will be honored before the contest on Saturday.
