MOREHEAD, Ky. – Southeast Missouri senior shortstop
Kenton Parmley tied the Ohio Valley Conference hitting streak record (42-games) Friday evening in Morehead, Ky. in the Redhawks 7-2 loss to Morehead State. Parmley tied Chuck Abbott of Austin Peay as he accomplished the feat in 1996 as the two are tied for fifth all-time in NCAA Division I history.
The Redhawks drop to 10-25 overall and 2-8 in the OVC as the much-improved Eagles move to 20-14 and 6-4 in the conference.
“We had a lot of loud hits today,” said head coach Mark Hogan. “We just couldn't get back into the game.”
Parmley tied the OVC hitting streak record with a double to left centerfield in the third inning. He would later score the first run of the game on an RBI single from
Derek Gibson. Gibson has also extended his streak and has now had a hit in 19-straight games.
“It is a joy to watch Kenton right now,” said Hogan.
The Eagles responded in the bottom of the third inning with four runs with all four runs coming with two outs in the inning. The Eagle's Andrew Deeds highlighted the frame with a two –run double off the fence in right field.
The Eagles added a run in the fourth inning and added two in the fifth on a home run from Drew Williams to extend their lead to 7-1.
The Southeast bullpen retired eight straight batters through the fifth, sixth and seventh innings as Southeast charted a comeback charge in the top of the eighth.
Parmley opened the inning with a double. He would later score on a
Kody Campbell double as Southeast cut the lead to 7-2.
Southeast looked to add to their run total with runners on second and third, but
Jason Blum lined out to the third baseman to end the Southeast threat. Neither team mustered any more offense in the contest as the Eagles took the opening game, 7-2.
Parmley was 3-for-4 with two runs scored as he improved his batting average to a team-high .411.
Moses extended his reaching base safely streak to 55-games with a single in his first at-bat.
Christian Hull (2-6) was tagged with the loss going 4.1 innings allowing seven runs on 10 hits.
Trevor Kill was effective out of the bullpen retiring all five batters he faced.
Michael Patman followed throwing two innings allowing only one hit.
“We got some very nice relief from the bullpen today by Kill and Patman,” said Hogan.
Designated Hitter Drew Williams was 3-for-4 with a home run to pace the Eagles offense.
Aaron Goe (3-4) picked up the win going 7.1 innings allowing nine hits on two earned runs.

Shae Simmons looks to win his third straight start for Southeast.
