CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri pitcher Shae Simmons struck out a career-high 12 batters Saturday afternoon at Capaha Field, but Austin Peay starter Zach Toney struck out nine batters as the Governors took the contest 5-2.

The 12 strikeouts by Simmons was the most since Josh Syberg struck out 14 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on March 18, 2007.

Austin Peay opened up the scoring with an unearned run in the top of the third inning off of Simmons.

Southeast responded in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run homer from Trenton Moses, his 11th of the season, tying his home run total from a season ago.

Moses extended his hitting streak to 15 games and his reaching base safely streak 44 games with the round tripper.

The Govs would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth as Southeast recorded two errors in the inning as the pair of unearned runs changed the tide of the contest.

Simmons (0-4) was tagged with the loss throwing 5.2 innings allowing three unearned runs with a career high 12 strikeouts. Dylan Lynn was solid out of the bullpen throwing 3.1 innings allowing two earned runs.
