LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Southeast Missouri baseball team dropped their first ever meeting against New Mexico State Friday evening in Las Cruces, N.M. as the Aggies defeated the Redhawks 9-1.
The nation's leader in runs scored out hit the Redhawks 11-7 on the night as the Aggies improve to 13-8 overall. Southeast drops to 7-12 on the season.
“We ran into a good pitcher,” said head coach Mark Hogan. “We battled tonight and we are going to get ready for 18 innings of baseball tomorrow.”
NMSU opened up with a run in the bottom of the first inning off of Redhawk starter Christian Hull. The Aggies then added five runs in the second inning.
Hull (2-2) retired eight batters in a row in the middle innings as he finished the contest throwing five innings, allowing five earned runs with four strikeouts.
New Mexico State added a pair of runs in the sixth and one in the eighth to cap their scoring.
Senior Trenton Moses blasted his seventh home run of the season in the top of the ninth to get the Redhawks on the board. He extended his reaching base safely streak to 40 games with the homer off of All-American Scott Coffman.
“It was nice to see Moses drive the ball again, they are throwing their best pitchers at him,” said Hogan.
Kenton Parmley extended his hitting streak to 26 games and his reaching base safely streak to 35 games with a double in the fourth inning.
Catcher Shane Blair added a pair of hits in the contest including his first career double.
Junior Trevor Kill threw the final three inning for the Redhawks allowing two earned runs on four hits.
NMSU starter Ryan Beck (3-1) earned the win going seven innings allowing five hits with nine strikeouts.
Shortstop Zach Voigt led the Aggies offense going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Redhawks and Aggies will play a doubleheader tomorrow at 4:05, CT. Junior Shae Simmons (0-2, 2.14 ERA) will get the start opposing Michael Ormseth (5-0, 4.83 ERA) in the first game.
