Redhawks in OVC Openers
Southeast is 7-13 all-time in Ohio Valley Conference-openers. The Redhawks last opened league play with a win on Dec. 2, 2006. That year, Southeast beat UT Martin, 81-79, in Cape Girardeau for its first conference victory.
Series History
The Redhawks are 16-21 in their series against Morehead State. This year marks the first time Southeast faces the Eagles to start league play. The Redhawks have lost each of their last eight meetings with Morehead State.
Three-Point Frenzy
Southeast drained each of its first nine three-point attempts at Sacramento State (Dec. 22). The Redhawks finished with a season-high 12 three-pointers in that game.
Three-Point Threat
Marland Smith, who was named this week's Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, made a career-high seven three-pointers at Sacramento State (Dec. 22). Smith, who shot 7-of-10 from behind the arc, knocked down his first six treys of the game. He finished with 21 points against the Hornets, marking his third-straight 20-plus scoring effort. Smith is now averaging 10.2 points per game as Southeast's third-leading scorer.
Tough Tandem
Tyler Stone and
Leon Powell each rank among the top Ohio Valley Conference leaders in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and blocks this season. Stone is currently sixth in scoring (14.7 ppg), fourth in rebounding (7.5 rpg), fifth in field goal percentage (.536) and tied for sixth in blocks (12, 1.0 bpg). Meanwhile, Powell stands 13th in scoring (12.5 ppg), sixth in rebounding (6.9 rpg), first in field goal percentage (.737) and 10th in blocked shots (9, 0.8 bpg). The tandem has accounted for a total of 17 double figure scoring performances and five double-digit rebound games through 12 contests this year.
