Redhawks Begin 2025 Campaign Thursday at Home, On Road Sunday at Belmont
Southeast Missouri Women's Soccer (0-0-0) will open the 2025 regular season against a pair of teams from the Missouri Valley Conference beginning on Thursday, August 14, when Evansville (0-0-0) comes to Cape Girardeau. The Redhawks will continue the opening week with a road contest at Belmont (0-0-0) on Sunday, August 17.Â

Lots To Do at Houck Field
Thursday's home opener includes several promotional items for the match beginning with 'Popsicles at the Pitch' night courtesy of SEMO Athletics. The department is offering 320 push-pop treats while supplies last.Â

Thursday's match will also be 'Chic-Fil-A' Day, courtesy of CFA Cape Girardeau. The first 200 adults will receive a voucher for a free chicken sandwich meal or an 8-count nuggets meal. The first 200 kids will receive their own voucher for a free kid's meal at Chic-Fil-A.

Evansville
The Redhawks and Purple Aces will meet for the 18
th time on Thursday night in the history of the two programs. SEMO holds an overall record of 8-4-5 in the series history. The last time the two met on the pitch resulted in a 0-0 tie during the 2023 season in Evansville, Ind. The Redhawks are 4-2-3 at home against UE all-time.Â

Belmont
SEMO and Belmont will meet for the 17
th time on Sunday evening in Nashville and the first meeting since the 2021 campaign. In that match, the Redhawks defeated Belmont 2-1 in Nashville. Overall, SEMO leads the series with an 8-3-5 overall record.

A New Era
Thursday marks the beginning of Redhawks first year head coach,
John Klein, on the sidelines. Coach Klein was hired on January 22 of this year and comes to Cape Girardeau after spending 38 seasons as the head coach for Columbia College's men's & women's soccer program(s). He amassed an overall record of 558-174-63 between the two programs during his time at Columbia.Â

The Assistants
Joining Coach Klein on the sidelines this season are Assistant Coach
Carter Redford and Graduate Assistant
Cesar Sancho. Both Redord and Sancho are in their first season at Southeast Missouri.Â

Redford most recently graduated from Columbia College after playing for Coach Klein during the 2024 season. Sancho played at Memphis University from 2022-2023 and joined the staff shortly after.Â

The first roster under Coach Klein features 26 Redhawks, 13 of which return from last season while 13 are new to Cape Girardeau this year. SEMO has 12 players from the state of Missouri, nine from Illinois, one from Tennessee, and one from Iowa. Included in the number are three international players one from France, Spain, and England.Â

Player to Watch
Junior midfielder
Justi Nelson landed on the 2025 Ohio Valley Conference Preseason 'Player to Watch' list ahead of the season. A season ago, Nelson played in 16 matches making 15 starts in the center of the park. She scored her lone goal of the season in the first round of the 2024 OVC Tournament and dished out an assist against UT Martin (10/27) during the regular season. She finished the year with three points, 16 shots, and eight shots-on-goal.Â

The Schedule
The 2025 regular season schedule features 18 matches for the Redhawks, including nine non-conference matches and nine Ohio Valley Conference matches. The Redhawks begin the season with three-straight matches against teams from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) before hosting Missouri State (Aug. 28) and North Alabama (Aug. 31) of Conference USA and ASUN Conference, respectively. Matches with Indiana State (Sept. 7, MVC) and Murray State (Sept. 11, MVC) are next before wrapping-up non-conference action with Kansas City (Sept. 14, Summit) and Xavier (Sept. 17, Big East).Â

Soccer will then begin OVC play on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Lindenwood marking the first-of-nine OVC matches in the regular season. The 2025 OVC Tournament will begin on Thursday, October 30 and will run all the way to the championship match on Sunday, November 9.Â
