EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Southeast Missouri Baseball (27-22, 13-9 OVC) dropped game one of the series with Southern Indiana (23-26, 11-11 OVC) by a final score of 9-6 on Friday night at USI Baseball Field.
The Redhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning. After back-to-back one out singles by
Michael Mugan and
Bryce Cannon, the Redhawks loaded the bases with
Cole Warehime reaching on an error by USI.
A sacrifice fly from
Ty Stauss made it 1-0 as Mugan came into score for the game's first run. A failed pickoff attempt by USI's Jake Porter made it 2-0 Redhawks as Cannon came into score.
An RBI single by designated hitter
Gunnar Doyle made it 3-0 as Warehime came across to score the third run of the inning.
USI would score a run in the first and would score nine unanswered runs over the next six innings to take a 9-3 lead into the seventh inning.
SEMO would not go away quietly, responding in the seventh inning with a three-run frame. The Redhawks scored all three runs in the seventh with two outs, beginning with a single by
Andrew Ramirez.
An RBI triple by
Brooks Kettering would make it 9-4 Redhawks before he would come into score from third base on a pass ball to make it 9-5 USI.
After a walk to Mugan, a wild pitch would move him to second base before
Bryce Cannon hit an RBI single through the right side to make it 9-6 as the game moved to the eighth.
The RBI single was the game's final run of the evening, as USI shut the door to take the game by a final score of 9-6.
