Redhawks Travel to Southern Indiana for Weekend Series
Southeast Missouri Baseball (27-21, 13-8 OVC) will continue Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend as they travel to Evansville, Indiana to take on Southern Indiana (22-26, 10-11 OVC) for a three-game set. The series will begin on Friday, May 9 at 6 pm., will continue Saturday, May 10 at 3 p.m., and conclude on Sunday, May 11 at 1 p.m. all from USI Baseball Field. 
 
Sawyers vs. USI
The Redhawks and Screaming Eagles will meet for the eighth, ninth, and tenth time in the Andy Sawyers tenure this weekend. In his ninth season, Coach Sawyers has an overall record of 5-2 against USI including last season's OVC Tournament when the Redhawks downed USI, 11-5. 
 
Weekend Recap
The Redhawks most recently hosted Tennessee Tech a weekend ago at Capaha Field as the Golden Eagles won all three games against the Redhawks. SEMO led 6-1 in Friday night's contest before a rally from TTU saw them take a 7-6 lead into the ninth inning. An RBI groundout from Andrew Ramirez tied it at seven in the bottom of the ninth inning as the game would go all the way to the 11th inning. TTU would take the lead in the top of the 11th to hold on for an 8-7 victory. Ty Stauss recorded an RBI triple in Saturday's matchup for the only run of the contest for the Redhawks as TTU won the second game by a score of 7-1. A pitcher's duel on Sunday, saw Haden Dow go 8.1 innings with seven strikeouts and no walks but the Golden Eagles utilized a three-run second inning to win the series finale 3-2. 
 
The Standings
The Redhawks enter the second-to-last regular season series of the 2025 campaign with a 13-8 Ohio Valley Conference record and currently sit in fourth place. SEMO, who should be in third place in the conference standings, trails Eastern Illinois (12-6) on conference win-percentage only. SIUE leads the conference at 15-6 overall in league play, followed by TTU with a 14-7 mark. USI enters with a 10-11 record and are currently in sixth place. 
 
Another Triple 
Left fielder Ty Stauss recorded his third triple of the season in Saturday's contest against Tennessee Tech. Stauss drove in his 27th RBI of the season with his third triple of 2025. Over his career, Stauss has five triples to his name. 
 
Andrew's Day
Infielder Andrew Ramirez had a career day in Friday's contest last weekend while making his fifth consecutive start at third base for the Redhawks. Ramirez finished with a career-high three hits and scored a career best three runs in the contest. At the conclusion of the weekend, Ramirez has started seven-straight games at third base. He has eight hits in 28 at-bats (.285) and has scored eight runs over that stretch. 
 
Canadian Cowboy
LHP Haden Dow pitched 8.1 innings on Sunday afternoon, marking his second longest outing of the season. Dow allowed just two earned runs while striking out seven Golden Eagles in the outing. He did not surrender a walk for the fifth time this season and the ninth time in his career as a Redhawk. He has a 3.29 ERA on the season over 12 starts and pushed his strikeout total to 61 in 68.1 innings. 
 
Wizard of Os
Ethan Osborne came on in relief on Friday night pitching 1.0 innings which tied his second longest outing of the season. Osborne finished the outing with a season-high three strikeouts surpassing his previous high of two. He has 17 strikeouts in 10.0 innings pitched and has surrendered just three walks this season. 
 
Top Pitching
Southeast Missouri comes into the weekend with the league's best ERA at 4.63 over 431.1 innings pitched. The Redhawks have 423 strikeouts, averaging 8.83 strikeouts-per-nine innings and have surrendered a league-low 150 walks. Nathan Mertens it's the league's top pitcher with a 6-1 overall record and a 2.67 ERA. Opposing hitters are batting just .221 against him. Haden Dow ranks third with a 3.29 ERA with a league-low .202 opposing batting average. 
 
Top Defense
Behind the pitching staff, the Redhawks have the OVC's second best fielding-percentage entering the second-to-last weekend. The Redhawks have a .973 fielding-percentage on 1,187 putouts. The Redhawks have committed just 54 errors, nine more than league-leading SIUE (45). 
 
Power
Right fielder Cole Warehime leads the Redhawks in batting and slugging-percentage this season. Warehime is the only Redhawk north of .300, hitting .310 after 48 games and slugging a team-high .556. He ranks ninth in the OVC in slugging-percentage and total bases (95). 
 
Home Runs
The Redhawks have been turning it on recently with the long ball, pushing their season total to 49 after this past weekend. SEMO ranks fifth in the OVC in home runs, led by Cole Warehime with 11. Warehime is the only Redhawk in double-digits, followed by Michael Mugan and Bryce Cannon with eight. Warehime is tied for sixth in the league with 11 bombs. 
 
Forsyth Soaring
Catcher Liam Forsyth started Saturday & Sunday behind the plate for the Redhawks and had a career day on Saturday afternoon. Forstyh recorded his first multi-hit day of his career in a Redhawk uniform, finishing 2-4 at the plate with a double. His double was the first of the season and extended his hitting-streak to four games. 
 
Get On Anyway 
The Redhawks' middle infield leads the OVC in walks through 48 games, led by Brooks Kettering who has an impressive 38 walks this season. He averages .81 walks-per-game followed by Carson Schrack who has 28 walks in just 37 games played. Catcher Shea McGahan is second on the team with 31 base-on-balls. 
 
Two Base
First baseman Bryce Cannon continues to lead the Redhawks and the OVC in doubles this season. Cannon recorded his 17th double of the season in Sunday's series finale with TTU and is averaging .35 doubles-per-game. He is third on the team in RBIs with 34 and has started all 48 games at first base this season for the Redhawks. 
 
Most Hits
Center fielder Michael Mugan enters the weekend leading the Redhawks in total hits. The Seaside, California-native has 56 total hits including 11 doubles, a triple, and eight home runs. He is hitting .293 on the season which is second on the squad. 
 
Most Triples
The Redhawks currently lead the OVC in triples with 14 on the season as a team. Ty Stauss and Liam Forsyth lead the club with three apiece. SEMO has one more triple on the season than UT Martin who is second in the league with 13.
