EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Southeast Missouri Baseball (27-23, 13-10 OVC) dropped the second game of the series with Southern Indiana (24-26, 12-11 OVC) on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 8-7 at USI Baseball Field.
USI gained the lead in the home half of the first inning with an RBI single to make it 1-0 after the first inning of play. Another run from the home team would make it 2-0 Screaming Eagles before the Redhawks would get on the board.
Third baseman
Andrew Ramirez led the Redhawks with a pair of hits and three RBIs including his first of the game in the top of the third inning with his second home run of the season. Ramirez blasted his home run down the left field line to cut the USI lead in half sparking two-straight innings with a run.
Left fielder
Ty Stauss left the yard for the fourth time this season in the top of the fourth inning with one out in the frame. Stauss' blast went to right field, tying the game at 2-2 after four innings.
USI would regain the lead with a run in the fourth, before a big four-run sixth inning from the Redhawks. First baseman
Bryce Cannon roped his 18
th double of the season to lead off the sixth inning to spark the inning.
The Redhawks would score all four runs of the frame with two outs after a ground out and a line out. A walk to Stauss followed by a walk to
Brooks Kettering loaded the bases for the Redhawks.
Andrew Ramirez tallied RBIs two and three of the game with a two-out single that scored Stauss and Cannon to make it 4-3 Redhawks.
Liam Forsyth put a ball in play that was booted by the USI defense to allow the third run of the frame to come across, Kettering scored to make it 5-3 SEMO. An RBI single by second baseman
Carson Schrack made it 6-3 after the sixth inning.
A scoreless frame put up by
Gavin Johnston sent the game to the seventh inning with the Redhawks winning by three. A four-run seventh from USI would make it 7-6 Redhawks heading to the ninth inning after a scoreless eighth.
Schrack led off the top of the ninth inning with his third home run of the season to make it 7-7 as the inning flipped to the home half. USI would utilize a walk off sacrifice fly to steal game two by a final score of 8-7.
