Redhawks Trek to Morehead State to Continue OVC Play
Southeast Missouri Baseball (23-18, 10-5 OVC) will head to Morehead, Kentucky to take on Ohio Valley Conference rival Morehead State (12-27, 2-13 OVC) for the sixth conference series of the season. The series is slated to begin at 5 p.m., 1 p.m., and noon on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively, from Sonny Allen Field. 
 
Sawyers vs. MSU
Ninth year head coach Andy Sawyers will face off with Morehead State for the 23rd, 24th, and 25th time over the weekend. The Redhawks hold a 9-13 record overall against MSU in Coach Sawyers' tenure having most recently defeated the Eagles in the 2024 OVC Baseball Tournament Championship final. 
 
Midweek Recap
The Redhawks most recently hosted Southern Illinois on Tuesday evening in Cape Girardeau. The Redhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the game's first four innings, but the Salukis scored 12 runs in the game's final five innings to take the contest, 12-6. First baseman Bryce Cannon recorded his 16th double of the season in the first inning while Cole Warehime hit his third home run in two days in the seventh inning to highlight a 10-hit night from the Redhawks. 
 
The Standings
SEMO Baseball enters the sixth conference series of the season with a 10-5 OVC record, tied for first place with SIUE (10-5) in the standings. The Redhawks have only dropped one series this season (at UT Martin) and have won series against Western Illinois (3-0), SIUE (2-1), Eastern Illinois (2-1), and Lindenwood (2-1). Morehead State is in last place in the OVC at 2-13. 
 
Top Pitching Staff
The Redhawks enter the weekend series with the conference's best pitching staff overall. Through 41 games, the staff has accumulated a 4.79 ERA led by LHP Jackson Kranawetter with a 2.25 ERA. SEMO pitchers have struck out 365 hitters while opponents are hitting just .255 against them. 
 
BB/9
As a pitching staff, the Redhawks are the number one team in the OVC allowing walks per nine innings. Through 41 games, SEMO has a 3.27 ratio of BB/9 and rank 12th in the nation in that category. RHP Nathan Mertens continues to lead both the conference and nation in BB/9 with a 0.65 mark. 
 
Don't Run
So far this season, Redhawks opponents have tried stealing 30 bases and have been caught 10 times. Catcher Shea McGahan leads the club with nine putouts from behind the plate. Fellow catcher Liam Forsyth has caught one attempted base stealer this season on 19 attempts. They rank second in the OVC in the category. 
 
100 Games
Sophomore Brooks Kettering played in his 101st game as a Redhawk on Tuesday evening. The Springfield, Missouri-native has been named to the OVC All-Freshman Team, All-OVC Second Team, and was an All-NCAA Regional selection in his time at Southeast. Kettering has played in 40-of-41 games this season in the middle of the infield. 
 
Drawing Walks
The Redhawks enter the weekend with 204 base-on-balls so far through 41 games in 2025. SEMO ranks 71stin the country in walks and is second in the OVC in the same category. Brooks Kettering leads the club with 31 walks and is the conference's walks leader. First baseman Bryce Cannon leads the team in hit-by-pitches at nine. 
 
Clutch Osborne
LHP Ethan Osborne appeared on Tuesday night coming into a bases-loaded jam. Osborne threw just six pitches to the first hitter he faced, recorded a strikeout, and ended the top of the first inning. Osborne did not allow a hit for the seventh time this season and for the 20th time in his career. He did not allow a run for the 10th time this year and the 33rd time in his career and did not surrender a walk for the 12th time this season and the 38th time in his career. 
 
 NCBWA Midseason Report
LHP Jackson Kranawetter was named to the 2025 NCBWA 'Stopper of the Year' Award Midseason Watch List on Wednesday afternoon. Kranawetter ranks first in the OVC with six saves this season and ranks 33rdnationally. In 32.0 innings of work, Kranawetter has struck out 44 hitters and has a team-low 2.25 ERA in 17 appearances out of the bullpen. 
 
Welcome Back, Brian Strange
RHP Brian Strange had a nice return to the mound for the Redhawks on Tuesday night. Strange, who had not pitched since April 11 against Eastern Illinois, pitched 1.0 innings against SIU and did not allow a hit for the second time in his career and this season. Strange struck out two hitters in the outing. 
 
Base Stealer? 
Graduate student Ty Stauss moved into the team lead in stolen bases after swiping his fifth of the season on Tuesday night. For his career, Stauss improved his stolen base record to a perfect 9-for-9 over his five-year career. As a team, the Redhawks have stolen a league-low 31 bases this season. 
 
Big Perk
LHP Cade Perkins, a junior from Manhattan, Kansas, made his 12th appearance of the season on Tuesday evening. He did not allow a walk for the seventh time in his first season as a Redhawk. He has pitched 12.1 innings and has allowed just seven earned runs, striking out 11 hitters. 
 
Cannon Blast
First baseman Bryce Cannon recorded his 16th double of the season in the first inning of Tuesday's contest. The Santa Rosa, California native drove in the game's first run for the Redhawks to give SEMO a 1-0 lead early in the contest. Cannon currently leads the OVC in doubles and ranks 28th in the country in the doubles category.
