Baseball Begins Five-Game Road Swing Tuesday at Evansville
Southeast Missouri Baseball (17-11) will begin a five-game road stretch on Tuesday, April 1, when they take on Missouri Valley Conference member, Evansville (9-18), from Evansville, Indiana. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m., CT. at German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium.Â

Sawyers vs. UE
Tuesday's matchup will mark the sixth time that head coach
Andy Sawyers has faced the Purple Aces in his nine-year tenure at Southeast. The Redhawks hold a 2-3 record against UE overall but are on a one-game win streak in the series. Earlier this season, the Redhawks throttled Evansville 17-6 at Capaha Field (Mar. 11).Â

The Redhawks completed a three-game sweep over Western Illinois to improve to 4-2 overall in Ohio Valley Conference play, marking their first series sweep of the season. SEMO scored 27 runs in the three-game set, 12 of them coming from a 12-1 drubbing in game one. RHP
Nathan Mertens tossed 7.1 innings of one run baseball allowing just four hits and struck out two. The Redhawks pounded out 12 hits in game one, 11 hits in game two, and 13 hits in game three. In all three games, SEMO came back to win after falling behind early in each game. RHP
Eddie White picked up his second win of the season in game two of the series while RHP
Brian Strange picked up his second save of the season in game three.Â

Freshman outfielder
Caleb Champion has started in five-of-the-last-six games primarily in center field. In those five games, Champion has eight hits including a career-high three hits against Western Illinois this past weekend (3/28). In 21 at-bats, Champion has nine hits for an impressive .429 batting average. He has driven in six RBIs, four of them coming against UT Martin (3/22).Â

The Redhawks improved to 10-3 at Capaha Field this season with the three-game sweep of Western Illinois over the weekend. SEMO, who just wrapped up a four-game home stand, extended its winning streak to five games after beating Middle Tennessee earlier last week (3/25). At home this season, the offense is hitting .315 as a team and slugging an impressive .511.Â

Five Game Win Streak
SEMO Baseball will take a five-game winning streak into a big week beginning on Tuesday evening. The Redhawks began the streak back on March 22 with a 7-6 victory over UT Martin in game two of a Saturday doubleheader. Over the stretch, the Redhawks are hitting .326 as a team with seven home runs, 40 RBIs, six doubles, and three triples. Catcher
Shea McGahan is the top hitter over the last five games, hitting a staggering .400 with six hits, a triple, home run, and seven RBIs.

Tuesday's game will be the first game in the month of April as the month of March was kind to the Redhawks who finished the second month of the season with a 13-7 overall record. The Redhawks did not drop a midweek contest in March (3-0) and won two series with Purdue Ft. Wayne & Western Illinois. SEMO split a four-game set with Indiana State and lost series at Jacksonville State (1-2) and UT Martin (1-2).Â

This past weekend, the Redhawks came from behind to win each game against Western Illinios. SEMO fell behind 1-0 in game one, 2-0 in game two, and 5-0 in game three before winning each game. The Redhawks scored 25-of-27 runs in the series in innings three-six against Western Illinois. Â

Michael Mugan has been on a tear over the last five games including two, four-hit games beginning last Tuesday against Middle Tennessee. He followed up that performance with another four-hit night on Saturday evening in game three with WIU. Mugan finished the week with seven hits and four RBIs.Â

The Redhawks finished last week with five stolen bases on five total attempts, led by
Michael Mugan who went 2-for-2 on stolen bases.For Mugan, the two swiped bags marked a new career-high for steals in a game.

Shea McGahan each recorded a stolen base over the four-game week. SEMO has stolen 13 bases this season on 23 attempts, led by Cannon who has four steals on the season in 28 games.Â

Ty Stauss got his name in the home run column on Friday afternoon with his first long ball of the season. Stauss crushed a two-run home run to right center field to become the 11
th Redhawk with a round tripper this season. In the series with WIU, Stauss also hit his third triple of his career marking his first triple of the season.Â

Shea McGahan logged a career-high three runs in Saturday's series finale with Western Illinois. The St. Louis, Mo.-native came across to score three times for the fifth time in his SEMO career. On the season, McGahan has come around to score 13 runs which marks him sixth on the team in runs scored.Â

Liam Forsyth each recorded a triple over the weekend against WIU as both backstops lead the Redhawks in triples this season. Forsyth has five hits on the season, with three of them being triples. For McGahan, his second triple of the season came in Friday's first game of the doubleheader. SEMO Baseball has 10 triples on the season, five of them from their catchers.Â

Brian Strange picked up his first career save last Tuesday night against Middle Tennessee before picking up his second save of the season in Saturday's contest against Western Illinois. In the two outings, Strange did not allow a single run and surrendered just one hit. He struck out six batters over the two games, including four against Western Illinois. Strange has made his last four appearances out of the bullpen for the Redhawks.Â

Alex Hayes continues to mow through the competition out of the bullpen for the Redhawks. Against WIU, Hayes recorded his third outing without allowing a run to the opponent(s) and marked the 14
th time overall in his career without allowing a run.

Eddie White picked up his second victory of the season in Saturday's game three win over WIU. White, who relieved starting pitcher
Haden Dow, pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball which marked a new career-high for the Kansas City, Mo.-native. White allowed no runs on just one hit, and struck out one Leatherneck in his outing. In six appearances this season, White has allowed just six runs on 15 hits and has struck out 11 opposing hitters. He is 2-0 on the season with one save.Â
