Redhawks Return to OVC Play with Western Illinois at Capaha this Weekend
Southeast Missouri Baseball (14-11, 1-2 OVC) returns to Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend when they host Western Illinois (6-14, 1-2 OVC) beginning on Friday, March 28 and concluding on Sunday, March 30. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday. All three games will take place at Capaha Field.Â

This weekend's series will mark the 13

th, and 15
th time the Redhawks & Leathernecks have met under ninth year head coach
Andy Sawyers. SEMO Baseball holds a 9-3 overall record against WIU including winning two-of-three last season in Macomb, Illinois.Â

Southeast Missouri most recently completed the season sweep of Middle Tennessee with an 8-5 victory over the Blue Raiders on Tuesday night at Capaha Field. The Redhawks got big nights from third baseman
Caleb Corbin and
Cole Warehime as the duo accounted for four-of-SEMO's-eight runs. Corbin recorded an RBI single in the second inning before hitting his third home run of the season in the seventh. Warehime blasted a two-run shot in the third inning to put SEMO up 3-1. RHP
Brian Strange sealed the deal, recording his first save of his career.Â

Friendly Capaha
After Tuesday's victory over Middle Tennessee, the Redhawks improved to 7-3 this season at Capaha Field. SEMO has defeated Purdue Ft. Wayne (x3), Indiana State (x2), Evansville (x1), and Middle Tennessee (x1) at home this year. This weekend marks the first Ohio Valley Conference matchup in Cape Girardeau of 2025.Â

Brooks Kettering has been among the nation's best in sacrifice bunts this season. Kettering has five sacrifice bunts on the season which ranks him first in the Ohio Valley Conference and 25
th in the entire country. Kettering utilized the sacrifice bunt on Tuesday afternoon in the first inning.Â

Nathan Mertens rank in the top three of division I baseball in strikeout-to-walk ratio. Dow ranks first in the OVC and second in the nation with a 18.50 K/BB ratio. Mertens follows close behind with a 16.00 K/BB ration ranking second in the OVC and third in the nation.Â

Brian Strange came out of the bullpen in the ninth inning on Tuesday evening for the Redhawks with an 8-5 lead. Strange pitched the final 1.0 innings and earned his first save of his Redhawk career. He struck out a pair of Blue Raiders and did not allow a hit for the first time in a SEMO uniform.Â

Alex Hayes has been a staple from the bullpen this season. The lefty made his eighth appearance of the season on Tuesday night and did not surrender a walk for the third time this year, and the 15
th time in his SEMO career. He struck out four Blue Raiders in 1.1 innings for a new career high.Â

One Redhawk has started and played in all 25 games this season. First baseman
Bryce Cannon has made all 25 starts at first base and has been among the best at the position for the Redhawks. Cannon is third in hits (25), third in RBIs (16), third in home runs (3), third in walks (15), and third in total bases (47). In the field, Cannon has had 240 chances while recording 225 putouts with an overall fielding percentage of .988.Â
