Baseball on Road Wednesday at Arkansas State
Southeast Missouri Baseball (3-3) will be on the road on Wednesday, February 26, to take on Sun Belt Conference member Arkansas State (2-5) in a midweek matchup marking the fourth road contest of the season. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. from Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro, Ark. 
 
Sawyers vs. ASU
Wednesday's matchup will mark the ninth time the Redhawks and Red Wolves meet on the diamond under the direction of head coach Andy Sawyers. The two teams are split even at 4-4 with Coach Sawyers. SEMO is on a current three-game winning streak in the series with the last matchup coming at Capaha Field resulting in an 8-5 victory over ASU. 
 
Last Time Out
The Redhawks took two-of-three from Northern Illinois this past weekend from Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama ending with an 11-1 victory in Sunday's rubber match. The series began with a 16-4 loss to Northern Illinois before the Redhawks rattled off two-in-a-row behind great starting pitching from RHP Brian Strange and LHP Haden Dow. SEMO picked up its first shutout victory in Saturday's game two by a final score of 3-0 behind a career-high nine strikeouts for Strange. The Redhawks pounded out 12 hits in Sunday's finale, downing Northern Illinois by a final score of 11-1 in eight innings. 
 
Big Series
This past weekend marked the first series win of the season for SEMO Baseball. Offensively, the Redhawks pounded out 28 hits over the three games and scored 18 runs against the Huskies. SEMO outhit NIU in every game but Friday's. 
 
First Cannon Blast
In Saturday's game two victory, first baseman Bryce Cannon crushed his first home run of the season to spark a three-run third inning. Cannon's blast went to the opposite field to give SEMO their first run of the ball game. A season ago, Cannon hit 14 home runs in 57 games. 
 
Kinda Strange
RHP Brian Strange had a career-outing against Northern Illinois in game two. The 6-1 right-hander pitched a season-high 6.0 innings on Saturday for the fourth time in his career. He punched out a career best nine opposing hitters en route to picking up his first victory of the season. He allowed a career-best one hit for the first time in his SEMO career stifling an offense that scored 16 runs the night before. He picked up the first shutout victory of the season as well. 
 
Score First
Through six games in 2025, the Redhawks have thrived when scoring the game's first run. SEMO holds a 3-0 record when scoring the first run of the contest. In the same frame, the Redhawks scored their first run of the ball game in Sunday's finale in the first inning propelling them to an 11-1 series deciding victory. 
 
The Lefty
LHP Haden Dow picked up his first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon after making his second-straight weekend start. Dow allowed a career-low one hit to NIU and surrendered just one unearned run, the only run of the ballgame for the Huskies. He punched out a season-high eight hitters in the contest and now has 11 Ks on the season. 
 
Six-Game Hitting Streak
First baseman Bryce Cannon has registered a hit in all six games so far this season. Beginning on February 14, Cannon has a six-game hitting streak including two games with multi-hit days. He has recorded eight hits on the season in 23 at-bats for a .348 batting average and has made every start this season. 
 
Season-Debut Osborne
Senior LHP Ethan Osborne made his season debut in Friday's series opener, pitching 0.2 innings against NIU. Osborne had a flawless outing allowing no runs and no hits and punched out a season-high two strikeouts. In his career, he now has 24 outings without allowing a run and 14 outings without surrendering a hit. He surrendered zero walks in the outing for the 27th time in his career. 
 
Throwin' Heat
RHP Nathan Mertens has had a strong start to the 2025 campaign in his first season as a Redhawk. In Saturday's contest, Mertens relieved LHP Alex Hayes in the seventh inning and allowed just one hit over 2.1 innings pitched. He recorded a SEMO career-high five strikeouts in his second appearance of the season and recorded the first save of the year for the Redhawks. He now has seven strikeouts on the season and has yet to allow a run. 
 
First Career Start
Infielder Jack Opoien made his first start in a SEMO uniform in game two of the series against NIU. Opoien, a junior from Prosper, Texas, started at third base after recording his first hit of the season in Friday's game as a pinch hitter. Opoien finished 1-4 at the plate in Saturday's 3-0 win. In Friday's game, Opoien roped an RBI double in his lone at-bat as a pinch hitter for the Redhawks. 
 
Catcher Got Wheels
Catcher Liam Forsyth, who made his second start of the campaign on Saturday, recorded the first triple of the season for the Redhawks who led the OVC in triples a season ago. Forstyh crushed the ball to the right center field gap and drove in his second RBI of the season with the triple for his first hit as a Redhawk. 
 
Double Machine
Short stop Andrew Ramirez had his best game as a Redhawk in Sunday's series decider, recording two doubles in the same inning. Ramirez led off the third inning with a double and sparked a seven-run inning for the Redhawks. After batting around, Ramirez came back to the plate with the bases loaded and smacked a bases clearing double to deep center to drive in a career-high three RBIs. He now has three-straight games with a double and has four total on the season. 
 
The Second Baseman
Second baseman Brooks Kettering saw the ball well in Sunday's game after facing a slower start to the campaign. The Preseason OVC 'Player to Watch' from SEMO recorded his second multi-hit game of the season and had his first multi-RBI game this year. Kettering drove in two RBIs with a double in the fifth inning to make it 10-1 SEMO. On the year, Kettering is hitting .227 with five hits, but has drawn six walks in 22 at-bats.
