Baseball Cruises to 11-1 Victory over Northern Illinois in Sunday's Finale

OXFORD, Ala. – LHP Haden Dow (1-1) picked up his first victory of the season as Southeast Missouri Baseball (3-3) rattled Northern Illinois (2-4) by a final score of 11-1 in eight innings in the series finale on Sunday evening.

Dow pitched an impressive 5.0 innings in the outing with a season-high eight strikeouts. The final five hitters that Dow faced all fell victim to a strikeout. Dow allowed just one hit in the outing while just one unearned run came into score.

The Redhawks got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning after a one-out double by Michael Mugan to right field put a Redhawk in scoring position. Left fielder Ty Stauss drilled a single up the middle to drive in Mugan. For Stauss, the RBI was the first of the season as he finished 2-4 with the RBI, a run scored, and a walk.

SEMO's biggest inning came in the third inning beginning with a leadoff double by short stop Andrew Ramirez. A perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Brooks Kettering moved Ramirez to third base before an RBI single by Michael Mugan plated the second run of the game.

Stauss' second hit of the ball game put Redhawks on first and second with just one out against NIU's starting pitcher Max Vaisvila (1-1). After a SEMO strikeout, Bryce Cannon grounded a ball to the NIU second baseman who booted it allowing Mugan to come into score from second base.

After Cole Warehime was hit-by-a-pitch, third baseman Mikey Rocha roped a single to left field to drive in two RBIs as the Redhawks blew the game open to make it 5-1 SEMO.

A single from Shea McGahan loaded the bases bringing Ramirez back to the plate as he blasted his second double of the inning, a bases clearing double to make it 8-1 SEMO after the third inning.

From there, it was all Redhawks pitching as Dow completed 5.0 innings and was removed for LHP Jackson Kranawetter

Kranawetter, making his second appearance in 2025, pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball allowing just one NIU hit. He punched out four Huskies over seven hitters.

RHP #31 Gavin Johnston sealed the deal with 1.0 innings of scoreless baseball, recording a strikeout. On the day, SEMO pitching totaled 13 strikeouts.
The Redhawks would add three more runs to seal the eighth inning victory as Brooks Kettering roped a fifth inning double that brought in Ramirez and Warehime to score. Bryce Cannon recorded a walkoff single in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the 11-1 victory.
