CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. - Paden Lewis broke the overall shot put record as the track and field team enjoyed a successful Redhawks Open with 21 top three finishes with 11 being first place finishes and ten new personal records.
Record Breaker
Paden Lewis set a new SEMO overall record in shot put, throwing for a huge 62' 6" mark. Lewis beat his own indoor record of 61' 1.5" set earlier this season and beat the outdoor record of 62' 1.25" set by Kevin Farley in 2017. This also set a new record for the SEMO Student Recreation Center, formerly held by Kevin Farley of 61' 7.75".Â
Lewis also topped the weight throw podium with a gold medal mark of 73' 2.50".
Topping the Podium
Tanner Koontz cleared a height of 16' 0.75" for first place in the pole vault.
In the women's weight throw
Makenzie Williams threw for 63' 8.75" to claim top spot on the podium and set a new personal best.
Anna Thomason jumped to a new personal record and finished first in women's long jump with a distance of 19' 00".
Brianna Dixon set a new personal best in the women's 55m hurdles with a time of 8.08, earning her first place. She also took first in women's high jump clearing a height of 5' 7".
In the men's long jump Luke Hatfield Jackson cleared 23' 2.75" of sand to earn first place. Hatfield Jackson also took first in the high jump, jumping over a height of 6' 11".
Marcus Gordon jumps over hurdles for 55m to take the trophy with a time of 7.96.
Clara Billing vaulted to first place in the women's pole vault over a height of 13' 1.50".

Colin Beers took second in pole vault while
Sullivan Gleason vaulted to third with a height of 15' 7".
Bailie Hux claimed the bronze medal and set a new personal record in the women's weight throw with a distance of 59' 1.25".
Kendall Holweg earned a silver medal in women's long jump with a distance of 17' 9.75".
Clay Alewelt threw for a distance of 60' 10.50", earning him second place in the men's weight throw.
Megan Aubuchon took second in the women's 55m hurdles with a time of 8.53.Â
Baylee Beard took third in women's shot put with a distance of 43' 9".
Alaina Lester took home the silver medal in the women's 55m with a time of 7.23.Â
In the men's 55m
Dominic Revels crossed the line at 6.54 for second.
Jake Casey hurdled his way to second place with a time of 8.54 and a new personal best in the men's 55m hurdles.
Molly Grohmann placed second in women's high jump, clearing a height of 5' 5".
Skylar Prescott cleared a height of 11' 7.75" to come second in the women's pole vault.
Notable Performances
Beard threw 56' 2.50" to claim fifth place in the women's weight throw, while
Andreese Ortiz took seventh with a distance of 44' 8.25".
In the women's long jump
Krysta Miller cleared a distance of 17' 0.75" to claim fifth place.
Quinton Maxwell and
Josiah Kilgore took seventh (52' 8.75") and ninth (45' 11.75") respectively in the men's weight throw.
In the men's long jump
Jacob Miller achieved fifth place with a distance of 19' 11.75".
Williams set a new personal best in women's shot put with a distance of 42' 1.50" that earned her fifth. Hux finished sixth (40' 5"),
Tayler Gudde finished seventh (35' 8.75"), Thomason finished eighth (33' 0.50"), and Holweg finished ninth (29' 8.75").
Breanna Miles ran to a fourth place with a time of 7.27, while three other Redhawks all had personal best in the women's 55m.
Sydney Burdine (7.33),
Laila Hardin (7.53), and Aubuchon (7.61) all set new personal records in the event.
Gordon finished seventh in the men's 55m with a time of 6.83.
In the men's shot put Maxwell finished fourth (51' 11.75"), Alewelt finished sixth (50'8"), Kilgore finished ninth (50' 8"), and
Luis Schadlich threw for a distance of 38' 7" (10th) tying his personal best.
Looking Ahead
The Redhawks travel to the OVC championships as the Southeast Missouri women will attempt to claim a third straight OVC title. The OVC championships will be held February 25-26 at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, Indiana.Â
