The Southeast Missouri cross country teams wrapped up its regular season meet schedule with competing at the Angel Mounds Invitational, in Evansville, Indiana Friday morning.
The men's team finished the 8k race 12th out of 17 teams collecting 278 points. Cincinnati took the team title scoring 44 points, just two points ahead of Lipscomb.
"Overall, on both sides this was the best race we have had as a team," said coach Ryan Lane. "We had some men set PRs and run higher than they have earlier in the season."
Garrett Dumke set a new personal best mark pacing the Redhawks finishing 24th in 24:47.8. Nick Cimmarusti followed him in 59th with a mark if 25:27.6 ahead of Evan Fuller, who finished 80th in 25:49.6.
Byron Sowerby scored team points for the first time this season placing 87th in 25:59.2. Wrapping up the team scoring was Ian Schwierjohn in 94th in 26:07.2.
Other Finishers for the Redhawks included Clayton Eftink (99th, 26:12.4), Jacob Blassingame (115th, 26:21.7 PR), Myles Thornburg (131st, 26:39.5), Sam Rinehart (148th, 26:57.5) and Trey Mygatt (171st, 27:28.5)
The women's team finished the 6k race sixth out of 19 squads, collecting 212 points. Cincinnati also won the women's team title scoring 39 points ahead of Tennessee Tech.
"Our women's team executed the race plan very well," Lane said. "They dropped places as the race went on and the team average was great. Also, the closest we have been to OVC teams means we are in a great spot before the meet in two weeks."
In her first meet of the season, Nova Ojutkangas led SEMO finishing in 25th with a time of 22:03.1. Lauren Eftink followed in 42nd with a new personal best mark of 22:25.7. Julia Martinez Dura scored for the second consecutive meet finishing in 51st in 22:40.9. Daphne Bishop finished in 56th with a new personal best time of 22:44.7 just ahead of Kayla Vogelsang in 57th also with a new personal best of 22:46.2.
"Nova ran well for her first race back," said Lane. "Pushing her body in race form caused a little shock, so to get the first race out of the way before conference, we should expect a big drop in two weeks."
Other finishers for the team included Lexie Dockstader (61st, 22:50.3 PR), Erika Mellor (65th, 22:54.8 PR), Matta Pearsall (71st, 23:08.9), Ceyda Bayur (73rd, 23:16.2 PR), Alayna Sparr (76th, 23:21.5) and Claire Horstmann (297th, 3:53.0 PR)
The Redhawks will have a week off before they compete in the OVC Championships hosted by Eastern Illinois on October 31st.
"We have pushing to compete well at the conference meet and not focus on results prior to the meet," Lane said. "We have one more week to train before we try to run or best at the meet."
