SEMO Faces TTU for First OVC Road Matchup Then Back at Home
Southeast Missouri women's soccer (0-6-1, 0-0-1 OVC) is headed to Cookeville, Tenn. to take on Tennessee Tech (0-11-4, 0-1 OVC) on Thursday then are back at home for Western Illinois (0-8-0, 0-1-0 OVC) on Sunday. First kick is slated for 7:00 p.m., CT Thursday and 1:00 p.m., CT Sunday.
Last Time Out
SEMO earned their first result of the season with a 1-1 draw against Southern Indiana.
Southern Indiana took an early goal lead with a goal from Emma Schut in the fourth minute. USI led 1-0 at the half and held a 6-2 shot advantage over the Redhawks after the first 45-minutes.
The Redhawks turned it around in the second half, firing eight shots in the second period, including the game-tying goal.Â
Southeast rifled 10 total shots, with a season-best six on target, led by forward
Cayla Koerner who finished with six total shots with four on goal. Koerner tied the match in the 53rd minute with her first goal of the season.
The Redhawks concluded the match with a 10-9 shot advantage over Southern Indiana.
Sophia Elfrink finished with three saves.Â
Series History
This is the 28th all time meeting between SEMO and the Golden Eagles. Last meeting resulted in a 1-0 SEMO loss at home on Oct. 15, 2023.
 The past ten years these OVC opponents have met 11 times. SEMO leads 5-3-3 with one matchup happening in the postseason. In 2015 SEMO beat TTU 2-0 in the OVC tournament.
Their first ever meeting came on October 10, 1999. The Golden Eagles defeated SEMO by a score of 0-1.Â
The series is tied against WIU 2-2-1 with the last match ending on a 0-0 draw Sept. 23, 2023. Over the five meetings Western has scored eight goals while SEMO has put seven in the net.
The first ever meeting between these two teams came on Sept. 19, 1999 with a 2-1 WIU win in overtime.
Scouting Tennessee Tech
TTU fell to Little Rock by a score of 1-0 in their first OVC match. Little Rock outshot the Golden Eagles, 12-9. The two teams each attempted six tries in the second half.
Tech put six shots on goal compared to three from the Trojans while LR notched five saves.
Sophomore Forward Neve Renwick leads the team and conference in shots, shots on goal and goals with 43 (21 SOGs) and six with a 14% shooting clip and 48% SOG clip.
Katie Toney, Lucia Cuadra, and Anna Baker have all recorded two goals on the season while tallying 32 shots between them.
Maggie Conrad has started ten games in the net for the Golden Eagles playing in 945:00 of game action. Conrad has given up 25 goals and saved a conference high 65 shots for a .722 save rate.
TTU leads the conference in goals with 14 while ranking second in saves (67) and third in shots and points with 111 and 36.Â
Corey Boyd was named the ninth head coach in Tennessee Tech soccer history in April 2024. He enters his first season at the helm of the Golden Eagle program but has been on staff for 14 seasons.
Scouting Western Illinois
The Leathernecks currently have an overall record of 0-8 and dropped their first conference match of the season last Sunday against Lindenwood. WIU lost 1-0 at Lindenwood.
Against Lindenwood, Western Illinois recorded one shot, one shot on goal, and six saves.Â
Claire Brown, the Sophomore Midfielder, recorded the only shot in the contest. That was Brown's first shot and shot on goal this season. Brown is one of five Leathernecks to start every game for WIU this season.Â
Ariel Bernard, recorded ten saves during the contest making this the third time she recorded double digit saves in a game this season. Bernard is currently ranked first in the conference with eight saves per game, third in total saves (56), and third in save percentage (.800).
Junior Callie McMurtrey and Senior Alexis Betker have the two goals for WIU this year. McMurtrey is also leading the team in shots with five and shots on goal with three.Â
As a team, the Leathernecks have 33 shots compared to their opponents 190 and 19 shots on goal compared to their opponents 90.Â
Josèe Primeau is in her third season as head coach of the program.Â
