
Redhawks Complete Sweep of Lindenwood Sunday Afternoon

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Baseball (25-23, 13-8 OVC) completed the series sweep of Lindenwood (14-33, 7-14 OVC) on Sunday afternoon. The Redhawks and Lions finished the remainder of Saturday's contest, winning by a final score of 4-3.
SEMO clinched the sweep in Sunday's scheduled contest by a final score of 8-2. The series sweep of Lindenwood is the second-straight sweep of the Lions after the Redhawks took all three games a season ago in Cape Girardeau.
Saturday
The Redhawks and Lions started the second game of the series on Saturday, May 4, as SEMO jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks in-large part to defensive miscues by LU.
Brooks Kettering came into score after he led off the game begin hit-by-the-pitch as Michael Mugan recorded an RBI groundout to give SEMO a 1-0 lead.
After an error allowed Ben Palmer to reach and advance to second and Mugan's RBI ground out, left fielder Ty Stauss advanced Palmer to third base with a single to center field.
A sacrifice fly off the bat of third baseman Caleb Corbin allowed Palmer to score from third and the Redhawks led 2-0.
An error on LU's center fielder allowed the third run of the inning to come across and score as Stauss came into score SEMO's third run of the first inning.
A three-run, bottom of the third inning, would tie it for Lindenwood as neither side could score after that inning until the sixth inning.
Catcher Shea McGahan, with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, hit a sacrifice fly to score Caleb Corbin for the game's fourth and final run.
With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, play was suspended on Saturday afternoon to be resumed on Sunday at Noon, CT.
When the game resumed, RHP #7 Kyle Miller recorded his fifth save of the season as SEMO held on for the 4-3 victory in game two.
Sunday
The series finale on Sunday afternoon, that officially got underway at 12:40 p.m., was all Redhawks as a big, six-run, fourth inning propelled SEMO to an 8-2 victory.
RHP #5 Brian Strange had a solid outing on the mound going 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed just five hits and struck out a pair of Lions.
RHP Collin Wilma (1-4) picked up his first win of the season in relief of Strange as the senior pitched 3.2 innings, allowing just two runs on four hits. He struck out a Lion in the outing.
Right fielder Josh Cameron got the scoring going with his 10th home run of the season in the top of the second inning. Cameron blasted a solo shot to right center to give SEMO a 1-0 lead.
A one-out double by Cameron in the fourth inning, and an infield single by Bryce Cannon got the momentum going in the inning.
Designated hitter Gavin Baldwin roped a single into left field to bring Cameron around from second to make it 2-0 Redhawks.
An RBI single by Nolan Ackerman, one hitter later, scored Cannon from second base to make the score 3-0.
Short stop Ben Palmer continued the scoring after Brooks Kettering loaded the bases with a single. Palmer roped a single into left center that brough home Baldwin and Ackerman to make it 5-0 SEMO and just one out in the inning.
Stauss recorded his 41st and 42nd RBIs of the season on his two out double to right-center field to score Palmer and Kettering. The hit put SEMO up 7-0 going into the home fourth. ]
In the sixth inning, Stuass would record his third RBI of the game (43rd on the season) with an RBI ground out to second base that scored Kettering and recorded the eighth and final run of the contest.
LU would score two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but LHP Logan Katen closed the door against his former team to lock up the series sweep.

SEMO Baseball will be back in action on Tuesday, May 7, when they host Missouri State. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m., CT. at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau.
