Redhawks Play Host to Morehead State This Weekend
Southeast Missouri Baseball (21-20, 9-6 OVC) will return to Ohio Valley Conference action over the weekend against Morehead State (23-18, 8-7 OVC) in a matchup between the third and fourth ranked teams in the conference. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday from Capaha Field.Â

Two of the longest tenured squads in the Ohio Valley Conference, the Redhawks & Eagles will meet 99th, 100th, and 101st time(s) over the weekend. SEMO holds a 53-45 all-time series lead. MSU took two-out-of-three from SEMO last season in Morehead, Ky. en route to winning the OVC regular season title.Â

SEMO Baseball completed the regular season sweep of non-conference rival Southern illinois on Tuesday night by a final score of 8-5 from Capaha Field.Â

Short stop
Ben Palmer, who leads the club in home runs, got the scoring going with his 12th bomb of the season off LHP Alec Nigut to give SEMO an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Later in the inning,
Bryce Cannon was hit-by-a-pitch, earning an RBI the hard way to put SEMO up 2-0 after the first frame.Â

An RBI single and RBI double by SIU in the third inning by Jake Allgeyer and Cole Christman, respectively, tied the game at two.Â

Second baseman
Brooks Kettering roped his third home run of the season over the right-field wall in the bottom half of the third to regain the SEMO lead. An RBI infield single in the fifth by SIU's Jordan Bach tied the game heading into the last half of the contest.Â

A huge four run seventh inning by the Redhawks proved to be the difference. Making his third start of the season, left fielder
Ian Riley blasted his second home run of the season over the right-center field wall put the Redhawks back on top, 4-3, to spark the big inning.Â

Palmer singled through the left side to drive in his second RBI of the contest,
Ty Stauss hit into a fielder's choice, and Cannon would single to left field for his second RBI of the contest and the Redhawks led 7-3.Â

Each team would score an additional run heading into the ninth inning as RHP Kyle MIller picked up his third save of the season as the Redhawks held on for the 8-5 victory on Tuesday night.Â

Third baseman
Caleb Corbin is the team leader in triples this season. Corbin hit his fifth triple of the year in Tuesday night's contest. The Redhawks are T-61 in the country for triples per game (0.29) and are second in the OVC with 12 triples as a team. Corbin ranks first individually in the OVC.Â

April…So Far
The Redhawks are currently 7-6 and 4-5 in conference play in the month of April. SEMO has dropped series, on the road, to Little Rock and Tennessee Tech, but have won their only home OVC series of the month taking 2-out-of-3 from Southern Indiana. The Redhawks are currently a game ahead of fourth place Morehead State (8-7) in the conference standings. SEMO swept their regional rivals this season with two wins over both Murray State (Feb. & April) and Southern Illinois (April).Â

First baseman
Bryce Cannon picked up RBIs number 35 & 36 on Tuesday night with an old-fashioned hit-by-pitch RBI and a single to left field in the seventh inning. Cannon leads the Redhawks in RBIs and currently ranks 10th in the OVC for the category.Â

Caleb Corbin
Third baseman
Caleb Corbin leads the Redhawks in three major categories. Corbin, who has been SEMO's regular starter on at third base over the last few weeks, leads the squad in batting average (.390), slugging-percentage (.671), and on-base percentage (.495). He ranks third, seventh, and second, respectively, in the OVC for those categories.Â

Kyle Miller, the all-time saves leader in SEMO history, picked up his third save of 2024 on Tuesday night. Miller, a senior from Eureka, Mo., has been the staple of SEMO's bullpen the last four season. After Tuesday's contest, Miller has allowed zero runs to opponents 31 different times in his Redhawk career. He also did not allow a walk on Tuesday night, bringing his total to 42 appearances without surrendering a walk.Â

Ben Palmer continues to lead the club with his 12 home runs and is the only Redhawk in double-digits in the category. Palmer is now tied for third in the conference in home runs. Three Redhawks are looking for their 10th home run of the season in

About Morehead State
The Eagles are led by first year head coach Brady Ward and come into the weekend series with a 23-18 overall record and an 8-7 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference. MSU is just one game behind SEMO coming into Friday's contest. Offensively, MSU is leading the conference at the plate with a .322 team batting average. Rylee Preece and Roman Kuntz lead the club and the conference in several offensive categories. Preece leads both in runs scored (64), on-base percentage (.514), and OPS (1.253). Kuntz is the power provider for MSU as he leads the team in slugging percentage (.780), RBIs (60), and home runs (20). On the mound, MSU is led by Luke Helton who has a 4.90 ERA and a 6-2 overall record. Helton has pitched 64.1 innings and has recorded 61 strikeouts on the season.
